  • Patent number: 7425901
Abstract: A baby monitoring system including a baby unit for receiving audio signals, and a parent unit for reproducing an audio signal received at the baby unit. At least one of the baby and parent units includes audio signal recording capability, e.g. using a digital voice recorder. Preferably, at least one of the units includes a port capable of outputting data representing a stored audio signal, such that the data can be stored in a memory of a PC or other device. Thus, a baby's sounds/words may be monitored and recorded/stored in the memory of the baby monitoring system, downloaded to a separate device with long term storage capability, and the memory of the baby monitoring system may be reused to record new sounds, causing deletion of previously recorded sounds from the baby monitoring system's memory while permitting long term retention of a record of such sounds in the separate device.

  • Patent number: 7397366
Abstract: A search apparatus and related method facilitate the final stage of a search for a buried person carrying a transmitter. When the searcher is in the close vicinity of the buried transmitter, the search enters a point-localization phase where the apparatus displays a representation of the current target distance from the apparatus to the buried transmitter as well as a representation of a previously-stored value for the target distance. By comparing the current distance to the previously-stored distance, the searcher can readily see whether the apparatus is getting closer to the buried transmitter or further away. Preferably, graphic symbols are displayed to represent the current distance and the previously-stored distance. The display can also provide a representation of whether the current distance is greater than or less than an immediately preceding distance that has been stored.

  • Patent number: 7123153
Abstract: A system and method of tracking individuals divided into flocks by means of radio communication and positioning systems is disclosed. A flock leader is provided with a first electronic device (1) comprising a first transceiver (2) operating in a public radio communication network, e.g. GSM or GPRS, a position tracker (3), e.g. a GPS-receiver, and a second transceiver (4) operating in a short distance radio communication system, e.g. Bluetooth®. Each of the remaining individuals in the flock is provided with a second electronic device (6) comprising at least a third transceiver (7) also operating in the short distance radio communication system. The second electronic device (6) periodically transmits data identifying the associated individual to the first electronic device (1), so that the flock leader knows that the individual is localized in the flock (i.e. within the coverage area of the short distance radio communication system) as long as it receives the data.

  • Patent number: 7123141
Abstract: Electronic monitoring systems and methods that permit full-time tracking and management of, and communication with, monitored clients that carry a client tracking unit and wear a transmitter, by a monitoring individual that carries a wireless portable monitoring device. A central monitoring station having a central database is ported to a plurality of processor interfaces, including RF, GPS, and integrated voice, for example. The central database is wirelessly linked to the portable monitoring device, which is programmed to remotely track and manage clients by way of the respective interfaces. A monitoring unit is coupled to (or includes) a dock that docks the client tracking unit. The client tracking unit has a GPS receiver that receives position signals from satellites orbiting the Earth to permit tracking of the client.

Abstract: A system for monitoring movement of a person. The system includes a mobile transmitter that is affixed to the person to be monitored. The transmitter transmits radio signals to a receiver that may be used to track the person. The receiver may include an indicator that shows when the receiver is proximate the person. The indicator changes intensity as the distance between the transmitter and receiver changes.

  • Patent number: 7106203
Abstract: A system and method use a wireless tether comprising a transmitter and a receiver to alert a caregiver that an object has been left unattended. A detector senses the presence of the object, usually a child, located in a position such as a safety seat. The detector is operatively coupled to the transmitter, which is located near the object. The transmitter transmits at least one wireless signal when the object is in the position. The receiver, which is remotely located from the transmitter, senses the at least one signal as long as the receiver is within a prescribed range of transmission. By performing a timing function, the receiver monitors the proximity of the caregiver, who maintains possession of the receiver, to the transmitter. The system communicates an alarm to the caregiver when the caregiver ventures outside the range of transmission without having removed the object from the position.

  • Patent number: 7106191
Abstract: A child distance and alerting system comprising a transmitter unit to be attached to a child's clothing and a receiver unit to be carried by a parent or guardian supervising the child, for preventing the child from wandering too far and becoming vulnerable to predators. The transmitter unit includes a disc-shaped body, a pin portion extending outwardly therefrom for piercing an article of clothing, and a pin-receiving component adapted for releasably clamping the pin portion so that the transmitter unit can be attached to the child's clothing. Once the pin portion and the pin-receiving component are properly joined, the transmitter unit cannot be removed from the child's clothing except by use of a special tool. The transmitter unit is designed to transmit radio frequency signals when it is attached to the child's clothing and remains activated until the pin-receiving component is removed from the pin portion.

  • Patent number: 7075433
Abstract: The present invention relates to computerized theft and displacement control and observation, dedicated to objects which represent a certain value or importance for its owner and shall thus be observed. In particular, it relates to a wireless, particular Bluetooth-based method and system. A tight, customizable Bluetooth communication involving a positive feedback control signal from the Guardian to the observed device is established (210,220,230) reflecting the usual case. This status is left when the observed device leaves the reception area of the Guardian as the positive feedback signal misses (220,240). Then the observed device sends out (260) standardized “I am stolen” signals which can be received and evaluated fully automatically at multiple locations by respective Theft Monitors. Thus, respective measures can be undertaken to seize the device, e.g., by issuing a selective quiet alarm.
