Patent number: 7135983Abstract: The purpose of this invention is to sense the presence of a seated occupant in a vehicle such as an automobile, plane, train or bus, or in a room or location where it is desirable to detect if seats are occupied. The occupant presence detection device consists of a single seat-mounted electrode, an oscillator circuit, a bridge circuit, a detection circuit and a circuit for processing the detected signals. The oscillator circuit excites the electrode. If an occupant is present on the seat, additional capacitance from the human body is introduced into the bridge via the electrode. This created differences in the voltage and phase of the waveform in each arm of the bridge circuit which are amplified by a differential amplifier. The signal is then converted to a DC voltage that, when above a predetermined threshold, causes the device to outputs a signal that indicates the presence of an occupant.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2002Date of Patent: November 14, 2006Assignee: Intelligent Mechatronic Systems Inc.Inventors: Vladimir Filippov, Kristopher Desrochers, Valeri Stepanov, Otman Adam Basir, Fakhreddine Karray

Patent number: 7119699Abstract: A liquid sensor device, system and method depends on the structural deformation of a trigger material in contact with a liquid, such as water, to convert potential energy of a resilient material to kinetic energy that triggers a mechanical response in an activated state. A transfer arm is biased toward the activated state and may be retained in a deactivated state, against urging of a spring, by a trigger material that may be structurally rigid while substantially dry. Upon contact with a liquid, such as water, the trigger material may relinquish structural rigidity and be substantially deformed. Upon substantial deformation of the trigger material, the transfer arm may be urged into the activated state by activating a locking mechanism or electronically, such as by activating a switch such as a micro switch. In the activated state, the triggered mechanical response may activate an alarm, and may trigger an electrical response to close a valve, such as a natural gas valve on a gas-heated hot water tank.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 2004Date of Patent: October 10, 2006Assignee: Glen Ellyn Industries, LLCInventors: Patrick F. Patent number: 7106172Abstract: A keyless access sensor system for use with a keyless access control mechanism (KACM) is described for controlling the operation of a locking device. The KACM receives a signal from a sensor device for keyless access to create a first output signal before the user has begun any action on the handle in order to open the door. The first output signal is sent to a general processor, which initiates a recognition process and, after recognition of the authorized user the processor then generates an unlocking signal which unlocks the locking device before the authorized user will have fully accomplished the action of opening the door. Patent number: 7102527Abstract: A passenger detection system is provided. The passenger detection system utilized an oscillation circuit that causes an antenna electrode to emit an electric field that is disrupted by the electrical characteristics of n object placed on the seat. This disruption alters the current and phase of the signal in the antenna electrode. By comparing the current flowing in the antenna electrode and/or the difference between the phases of the signal is the antenna electrode and the oscillation circuit output signal with predetermined threshold values, it is possible to detect the presence of a passenger in a reliable and inexpensive manner. Environmental sensors are used to make the determination more accurate. Humidity, moisture and/or grounding condition are detected and used to alter processing, values or calculations.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2004Date of Patent: September 5, 2006Assignee: Elesys North America Inc.Inventors: Shiuh-An Shieh, Gregory T. Patent number: 7019322Abstract: An optical sensor (5) for recording wetting of a surface (20) of a member (21), especially a window of a motor vehicle, having a transmitter (13), a receiver (14) and a retroreflector (11, 11?, 11?) for electromagnetic waves is proposed. The surface (20) of the member (21) has for this at least two sensing regions (12, 12?), which are exposed to electromagnetic waves originating from the transmitter (13) and coupled into the member (21) in a central region (10), the development of wetting on the sensing regions (12, 12?) effecting a change of the signal of the electromagnetic waves coupled out into the receiver (14) in the central region (10). For this, the retroreflector (11, 11?, 11?) is developed and positioned in such a way that it feeds back electromagnetic waves reflected by the surface (20) of the member (21) to the surface (20) of the member (21), and from there into the central region (10).Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2002Date of Patent: March 28, 2006Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventor: Helmut Sautter

Patent number: 7002480Abstract: A deposit detector in which deposit on a detection surface has a surface shape effect, and generation of a flashing phenomenon caused by irregular reflection of the light incident on the deposit from the outside is estimated. In a deposit detection mode, light emitted from a light source (10) for total reflection and total-reflected from the detection surface is received by a light-receiving element unit (50). Each element is disposed at such an angle that the light undergoes total reflection when no deposit is present or the condition of total reflection is not satisfied when deposit is present. Further, in a light-scattering deposit detection mode, light emitted from a scattering light source (20) and scattered by the detection surface is received by the light-receiving element unit (50). In an extraneous light quantity increase detection mode, extraneous light is received by the light-receiving element unit (50).Type: GrantFiled: December 25, 2001Date of Patent: February 21, 2006Assignee: Niles Co., Ltd.Inventors: Fumitoshi Kobayashi, Keiji Tsunetomo, Harunobu Yoshida, Tatsumi Tokuda
