Abstract: The system includes a thermal grill that has several relatively warm portions which are interlaced with several relatively cold portions. When an individual contacts the thermal grill, the temperature difference between the warm and cold portions of the thermal grill causes the individual to feel pain without physiologically damaging the individual. The system may provide some indication that the thermal grill should not be contacted. The system may also provide some indication that the thermal grill has been contacted. The system may also be able to send signals that the thermal grill has been contacted to a location that is different from where the thermal grill is located. The system may also allow the temperature difference between the warm and cold portions of the thermal grill to be adjusted from a remote location such that the level of pain which is generated by thermal grill is readily modified.

Abstract: A back drafting alarm assembly is designed to detect back drafting in combustion fired appliances. The assembly includes a temperature sensor unit that is attached to the diverter bonnet of a water heater or furnace to measure the temperature at all times. The sensor is connected to an alarm assembly that sounds an alarm when the temperature of the bonnet reaches or exceeds 130 degrees F. for a predetermined time period. The preferred time period is three (3) minutes. The alarm assembly also includes a reset button to shut off the alarm and a test button to make certain that the device functions when installed. A microprocessor provides the additional capability to record the total number of excursion events over a longer monitoring period. The alarm operates on direct current from a battery, or standard 110 volts AC with a suitable AC/DC transformer. A battery backup feature provides uninterrupted power when using 110 volts AC as a power source.

Abstract: A data recorder for use as a hunting detector includes a piezofilm accelerometer. A bandpass filter tuned to the approximate frequency of a hunting railcar couples the output of the accelerometer to a hold circuit. A controller, operating primarily in a low power consumption “sleep” mode, awakens periodically to check the hold circuit. If the contents of the hold circuit is greater than a predetermined value, a counter is incremented. When the counter exceeds a preset limit, then a flasher on the exterior of the data recorder is enabled.

  • Patent number: 7154385
Abstract: A vehicle-trailer back-up control system that employs an active front steer sub-system. The system includes a smart hitch controller that receives a vehicle speed signal and a hand-wheel angle signal, and calculates a hitch angle command signal. The system further includes a hitch angle sensor that measures the hitch angle between the vehicle and the trailer that is compared to the hitch angle command signal to generate a hitch angle error signal. A PID control unit receives the hitch angle error signal, and generates a corrected road wheel angle signal based on proportional and derivative gains. The corrected road wheel angle signal is used to generate a motor angle signal that is applied to a steering actuator to be combined with the steering angle signal to generate the front wheel steering signal during a back-up maneuver.

  • Patent number: 7142120
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for locating one among many items equipped with RFID tags. The apparatus comprises a portable system interrogating the RFID tags and receiving responses therefrom that depend at least on their bearing angle. A comparator selects responses from the one item and ignores others. An annunciator indicates the presence of the one item in the interrogator field of view and, desirably but not essentially, its relative proximity. A directional antenna whose beam pattern is limited in azimuth and/or elevation provides bearing angle information. Its field of view becomes progressively smaller as the antenna approaches the one item so that a user can substantially pinpoint its location without needing any of the usual RFID infrastructure. Tag response hit rate and/or signal strength provides range related information to the interrogator. Optionally, the presence of each new tag is announced until all new tags have been identified.
