  • Patent number: 7287738
Abstract: An article for mounting from or against the ceiling is removably coupled to a base fixedly secured to the ceiling, by a person standing on the floor, supporting the article on an elongated rod, and thrusting the article against the base to couple the article and the secured base. The article is removed by inserting the rod into the article, exerting a force on the rod to uncouple the article from the base, and supporting the article on the rod as the article is lowered. The article is thus positioned on or hung from the ceiling, without being manually contacted by the person. The article may be used to mount other devices, such as a sign, smoke detector, etc. or may include such device as a part of the mount.

  • Patent number: 7193507
Abstract: A siren housing has a dish-shaped base having a back wall adapted to be secured to as support structure. The base is configured and dimensioned to contain siren components. A post projects forwardly from the back wall. The post has a cylindrical sidewall terminating at a front rim. At least one channel circumscribes a segment of the sidewall at a location spaced rearwardly from the front rim. Entry and exit slots communicate with the channel at spaced locations along the length thereof. The entry slot leads to the front rim and the exit slot leading towards the back wall. A dish-shaped cover has a front wall. A cylindrical sleeve projects rearwardly from the front wall, the sleeve having at least one pin projecting radially inwardly therefrom. The sleeve is dimensioned for axial insertion onto the post.

  • Patent number: 7170417
Abstract: A decorative cover for smoke detectors and like devices mounted on a wall or ceiling provides a cover member of a generally opaque material approximately the shape of the device it is covering and somewhat larger than the device to be covered. The cover is provided with a plurality of connector resilient legs fixed to the inside of the cover and extending towards the device to be covered in the pattern to engage selected distributed points of engagement. Cam surfaces on the ends of the resilient legs are position to laterally deflect the respective legs when they contact the distributed points of engagement. Forces imposed by the resilience of the legs while deflected are directed in opposition to one another to maintain frictional engagement at respective points of engagement.

  • Patent number: 7004784
Abstract: A security device mounted on a support including a housing with a removable section and a base section. A terminal assembly having first and second terminals is disposed on a detachable portion of the housing that is directly mounted to the support. A printed circuit board and a pin assembly having first and second pins is mounted in the removable housing section. Attaching the removable housing section to the device inserts the first and second pins into the first and second terminals respectively. A conductive material provides electrical communication between the first and second pins whereby a tamper detection circuit can be defined between the first and second terminals. Disengagement of one of the first and second pins from its respective terminal opens the tamper detection circuit. Detachment of the removable housing section disengages the pins from the terminals thereby opening the tamper detection circuit.

  • Patent number: 6909239
Abstract: A dual LED and incandescent security lighting system uses a hybrid approach to LED illumination. It combines an ambient LED illuminator with a standard incandescent lamp on a motion control sensor. The LED illuminator will activate with the onset of darkness (daylight control) and typically remain on during the course of the night (“always on”). The LED illumination, typically amber, is sufficient to provide low to moderate level lighting coverage to the wall and ground area adjacent to and under the fixture. The incandescent lamp is integrated with a motion control circuit and sensor. When movement in the field of view is detected (after darkness), the incandescent lamp is switched on, providing an increased level of illumination to the area. Instead of an “always on” LED illuminator, the LEDs may also be switched off when the incandescent lamp is switched on.
