  • Patent number: 10977938
Abstract: A signal control apparatus includes a power supply device, a battery, a power switching section, a detector, and a display controller. A first mode is a mode in which electric power is supplied from the power supply device to each component provided in the signal control apparatus and a second mode is a mode in which electric power is supplied from the battery to the each component. The detector detects a volume of traffic on the basis of an image captured by an imaging device. The power switching section selects the first mode when a voltage or a current supplied to the power supply device is larger than a predetermined threshold value and selects the second mode when a voltage or a current supplied to the power supply device is equal to or lower than the predetermined threshold value.

  • Patent number: 7478251
Abstract: A controller in PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment) controls how to provision uninterruptible power through corresponding ports (and cables) of the PSE to network devices. For example, the controller of the PSE receives a signal indicating a transition of powering the PSE from a primary power input to a backup power supply. The backup power supply has a limited ability to provide backup power to the PSE. In response to receiving the signal, the controller of the PSE utilizes a powering/de-powering algorithm to generate control information used by the controller to selectively discontinue providing power through the certain ports to respective network devices. Consequently, the PSE and, more specifically, the controller provisions power from the PSE depending on a priority level associated with network devices, extending the power life of critical powered network devices and more efficiently using the backup power supply in the case of a power failure.

  • Patent number: 7423554
Abstract: The security system provides an aircraft security system capable of protecting both single and multiple engine aircraft. Variations of the present system prevent unauthorized starting of protected aircraft and activate an alarm when engine starting it is attempted. Embodiments of the system draw no power from the aircraft when the security system is armed and in no way interferes with the normal starting or operation of the aircraft when the system is disarmed. Embodiments of the present system can activate an alarm when an aircraft's doors or panels are opened. Embodiments of the present invention can activate an alarm when installed equipment or other devices are tampered with or removed from their housings.

  • Patent number: 7414538
Abstract: A detector assembly (10) powered by mains electricity and an elongate backup battery (76) is disclosed. The assembly includes: a ceiling mountable base (10) having a body defining a downwardly opening socket (24); a detector module (20) having a battery support portion (75) for holding the battery (76) in a vertical orientation, the module (20) receivable by the socket (24); a quick connection means for mechanically and electrically connecting the module (20) to the base (10); and shutter (50) mounted to the base (10). The shutter (50) prevents operation of the quick connection means when no vertical battery (76) is installed within the module (20). The quick connection means comprises co-operable pairs of conductors. The conductor pairs transmit power from the base (10) to the module (20). The pairs of conductors each comprise a stud conductor mounted to the base (10) and a forked conductor mounted to the module (20).

Abstract: An object of the invention is to render replacement of controllers for identifying failure information unnecessary. Failure monitor units 24 and 26 in power supplies 10 and 12 are connected mutually via paths 38 and 40, the failure monitor units 24 and 26 in the power supplies 10 and 12 are connected to failure monitor units 30 and 32 in controllers 14 and 16 via paths 34 and 36, and LEDs 1 and 2 are connected to paths 34 and 36. The failure monitor unit 24 transfers, when a failure occurs in the power supply 10, failure information to the failure monitor unit 26 in the power supply 12 via the path 38. The LED 1 is lit by both the failure monitor units 24 and 26. The failure monitor units 24 and 26 transfer failure information indicating failure occurrence in the power supply 10 to the failure monitor units 30 and 32 in controllers 14 and 16 via a path 34. The failure monitor units 30 and 32 notify a maintenance PC of the failure occurrence in the power supply 10.

Abstract: To provide a fault-tolerant architecture to supply electrical operating power in fluid flow measurement applications, apparatus and associated systems, computer program products, and methods include an intelligent power module with redundant and electrically independent battery strings to supply regulated voltage to electronic fluid flow measurement data processing circuitry. In a preferred implementation, the intelligent power module transmits operating power and battery status information over a two wire interface. Circuitry may encode information about the status of individual battery strings in a DC supply voltage. The fluid meter processing circuitry operates from the DC supply voltage and decodes the battery status information. Preferred embodiments may also include a switched-mode power supply capable of extracting substantially all available stored energy capacity from each of the battery strings, each of which is electrically isolated by a unidirectional current circuit.

  • Patent number: 7327219
Abstract: A monitoring system for use in a building, such as a hospital provides an audible and/or visual alarm. The monitoring system includes a control unit, with a plurality of medical condition monitoring units, such as ventilators, connected thereto. A plurality of speakers and/or light sources are connected to the control unit, and are located at various different spaced-apart areas within the building. An abnormal condition, sensed at one of the plurality of medical condition monitoring units, is reported to the control unit, which in turn causes the plurality of speakers and/or light sources to issue an audible/visual alarm. An adaptor can connect a medical condition monitoring unit to the control unit. The adapter may include circuitry to render an alarm output of the medical condition monitoring unit compatible with the control unit, and to suppress an alarm output for a predetermined period of time.
