With Circular Array Of Antennas Patents (Class 342/406)
  • Patent number: 10228443
Abstract: The various embodiments herein provide a Uniform Circular Displaced Sensor Array (UC-DSA) system and method for measuring/estimating Direction of Arrival (DOA) of a wireless signal. The UC-DSA system comprises at least a set of two circular antenna arrays. The two circular antenna arrays have a number of elements. A Radio frequency (RF) receiver captures a wireless signal incident on a circular antenna array. A Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimator processes a received input signal and a Triangulation system provides the exact location of the source of the wireless signal. The two circular antenna arrays with the same number of elements are placed on different radii, and are shifted to have equal separation between inner elements and outer elements.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a monitoring device includes a monitoring antenna, a frequency converter, a filter, a detector, and an azimuth detector. The monitoring antenna receives a carrier wave, an upper sideband wave, and a lower sideband wave as a VOR signal. The frequency converter converts a frequency band of the VOR signal into an IF band. The filter includes passband. The passband removes a component of the lower sideband wave in the VOR signal. The detector detects a component of the carrier wave, and a component of the upper sideband wave from the signal output from the filter. The azimuth detector detects an azimuth based on the detected carrier wave component, and the detected upper sideband wave component.

  • Patent number: 6329945
Abstract: According to the invention, a system utilizing satellites of known locations produces a sky map containing quality values relating locations in the sky to the quality of signals received from those locations. The sky map reflects known variability in signals received from satellites at selected areas of azimuth and elevation based upon historical data collected at a fixed or known GPS receiver location. The system uses the quality values to assign a weight to each set of measurements for that area in the sky. The invention thus improves the accuracy of GPS positioning by providing a good indicator of the quality of the measurements.

  • Patent number: 6094166
Abstract: An omni directional coverage multibeam antenna relief on a ground surface having simple conical shapes to provide beam steering is disclosed. One advantage of such a system is that the projected area is always constant and broadside to the intended direction resulting in limited scan loss effects. In the case of a cylinder as the conical shape, z-axis symmetry provides a constant antenna aperture projection in any azimuthal direction. Using this geometry, high level, side lobes are reduced considerably because of the natural aperture tapering from dispersion effects. Coverage area and power can be controlled by changing the ground surface angle and by selectively activating different antenna beam positions around the circumference of the ground surface, and by selectively changing the phase relationship between a given set of antenna beams. Likewise, beam down-tilt may be electrically realized by providing a phase differentiated signal to different antenna sections associated with an antenna beam.

  • Patent number: 4954835
Abstract: Radiodirection finding method and apparatus using Doppler effect frequency modulation for measuring the bearing of a source transmitting a high frequency signal, wherein either on the reception side or on the transmission side, several antenna strands are used in pairs diametrically spaced from each other and spaced evenly apart angularly about a circumference. A first pair of diametrically spaced antenna strands are energized and then the next pair of diametrically spaced antenna strands in turn are selectively energized so as to create, at all times, a mobile fictitious antenna moving diametrically and alternately between the two diametrically opposite antenna strands of the particular pair of antenna strands considered. Different pairs of diametrically opposite antenna strands are successively energized in an angularly rotating sequence from the first pair of antenna strands.
