Abstract: A method for locating a point in a first region based on receipt of a rf signal from the point. An antenna array is in the first region at a first position rotatable about an axis. A series of phase-array patterns is provided for implementation with the antenna array to provide measures of rf signal strength. Each pattern provides a plurality of reference values as a function of angle. A plurality of the phase-array patterns are used to acquire, in the first region, a plurality of rf signal strength values based on reception of the rf signal. A set of correlation values is determined where each value is a correlation between signal strength reference values and rf signal strength values acquired based on reception of the rf signal from the point. The correlation values identify a direction relative to the first position along which the point is located.

  • Patent number: 7495611
Abstract: A method for determining the direction of an incoming signal is provided in which each of a plurality of receivers arranged in a linear array is sampled in sequence to simulate a single receiver moving along an aperture defined by the linear array at a simulated speed. This generates a simulated time series data from which a simulated Doppler shift in the incident angle is measured. The simulated Doppler shift is used to determine the incident angle between the incident signal and the linear array of receivers. By adjusting the simulated speed to eliminate artifacts in the power spectral density of the data obtained from the receivers, the incident angle can be obtain from the expression of the simulated Doppler shift.

  • Patent number: 6914559
Abstract: In an interferometer system, a revolving antenna array is used to sufficiently resolve all ambiguities in determination of frequency and direction of arrival of a wave-front. The frequency and direction of arrival are determined by matching predicted phase difference codes with an actual code measured at the antenna array, utilizing a cross-correlation technique. The number of parameters that can be simultaneously uniquely determined by the system depends on if the antenna array is rotated in planar or conical surfaces, and if the cross-correlation is uni- or multi-dimensional. The antenna array may include more than one baselines to enhance the system sensitivity and finding capacity.
