In a state where a movement button is not pressed by a user, an MPU of an input apparatus is not outputting a movement command or is outputting a movement command with a displacement amount set to 0. In other words, even when the user holds the input apparatus and moves it, a pointer does not move on a screen. As a result, a movement of the pointer unintended by the user can be restricted. When the movement button is pressed, that is, when a first operation signal is input via a first switch, the MPU starts outputting the movement command. Abstract: A transformable cursor controlling apparatus includes a pair of housings which are a first housing and a second housing. The first housing has a first joint surface, and two sockets received therein and exploded outside the first joint surface. The second housing has a second joint surface corresponding to the first joint surface of the first housing. The second housing has an electrical connector protruded from the second joint surface and selectively inserted into one of the two sockets. A cursor controlling module is disposed in one of the pair of housings for controlling a cursor of computer. When the second housing is rotated 180 degrees related to the first housing along an axil line on the first joint surface of the first housing, the electrical connector can be inserted in the other socket.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and systems for providing a user interface (UI) having a selector controllable by a physical input device. The response of the selector is adaptively adjusted to facilitate executing desired operations within the UI. A response factor defines how far the selector moves for a given movement of the physical input device. The response factor is increased so the selector can be moved a large distance, but is dynamically decreased to provide fine-tuned control of the selector for selecting densely grouped screen elements. Screen elements can be endowed with gravity, making them easy to select, or with anti-gravity, making them more difficult to select. The disclosure methods also provide tactile feedback such as vibration or braking of the physical input device to assist a user in executing desired operations.

Abstract: An interactive electronic picture organization and display system stores pictures that include images of users' relatives and/or friends and enables the user to crop the images from the pictures into portraits of varying intimacy or social closeness values. The cropped portraits are stored with identification information and age indices and with specified preferred social proximities for the various individuals. Family trees are generated showing portraits of family tree members with appropriate age indices and preferred social closeness indices and are modified by simply mouse-clicking on displayed portraits. Collections of portraits of selected individuals exemplarily of different generations with an average generational age difference or the same age index (all as children, all as parents or grandparents, etc.) may be displayed. Life stories can be developed, collated to portraits of different age indices.

Abstract: Methods, systems and devices are described for operating an electronic device with a mouse, wherein the mouse includes a mouse movement sensor, a force sensor, and an input object position sensor. Operation of the mouse involves generating a first signal representing movement of the mouse relative to a working surface, generating a second signal representing force manually applied to the mouse, generating a third signal based on an input object in a sensing region of the mouse, and processing the first, second, and third signals to determine an interface action represented on a display of the electronic device.

  • Patent number: 8462113
Abstract: A method for executing a mouse function of electronic device and an electronic device thereof are provided. In the present method, an amount and a relative position of input signals are detected by a sensor module. Then, whether the amount and the relative position are respectively conformed to a predetermined value is determined. If the predetermined values are conformed, whether the input signal is conformed to a specific signal is determined when a variation of the relative position is occurred. Finally, a corresponding mouse function is executed according to a type of the variation if the variation is conformed to the specific signal. As a result, a mouse device is no longer needed for a user to accomplish a directional operation on the electronic device so as to prevent inconvenience of particularly carrying a mouse device.

Abstract: A power saving method for a motion estimation device which has a fixed sampling period and includes a light source illuminating with an adjustable emitting cycle to provide the needed light for the motion estimation device during capturing images. The power saving method includes: capturing a first image at a first time; capturing a second image at a second time, wherein a time interval between the first time and the second time is identical to one emitting cycle which is an integral multiple of the sampling period; comparing the first image and the second image to obtain a displacement; comparing the displacement with at least one threshold value; and adjusting the emitting cycle of the light source according to a comparison result of comparing the displacement and the threshold value. The present invention further provides a motion estimation device.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for emulating left, right, and center mouse button functionality for a multi-touch input device to provide end-users with full mouse functionality. Various finger to mouse button mapping techniques are used to specify the left, right or middle mouse buttons. A single finger is used for tracking while a second finger or thumb is used to activate or deactivate one of the mouse buttons. Multi-finger mouse emulation enables more precise cursor control, while avoiding occlusion of the cursor and end-user fatigue, thereby improving the overall end-user experience.
