Abstract: A driving circuit for a liquid crystal display module having an array of liquid crystal cells and signal lines, each liquid crystal cell being chargeable via one of the signal lines by any amount between two saturated values so as to provide a corresponding display intensity. The driving circuit is configured to charge selectively all the liquid crystal cells of the array during a frame period so as to cause the array of liquid crystal cells to display an image. During a normal mode of operation, all of the liquid crystal cells are recharged repeatedly at a first refreshed rate. During a low power mode of operation, all of the liquid crystal cells are recharged repeatedly at a second refresh rate, lower than said first refreshed rate. Also, during the low power mode of operation, all of the liquid crystal cells are charged only to one or other of the two saturated values.

The load (12) demands at least one such parameter value (V) from the power supply (14). The power supply (14) delivers the output parameter value (V) to the load (12). The load (12) comprises a control signal setting unit (16), which receives information relating to the output parameter value (V) and is connected to the power supply (14) for delivering a control signal (VC). The control signal (VC) includes information relating to the output parameter value (V) and is used by the power supply (14) for regulating the output parameter value (V). Abstract: A video compensation system for analog video transmission is described. The compensation system is employed in an analog video switching circuit such that each time a conductive path is switched, the system automatically tests the new switch path for a new compensation value. The compensation value is determined by measuring the response of the new path to a set of tones that are applied to the conductive path, the response to which is measured against a table of responses previously recorded. The measured responses are compared to the recorded responses to determine an appropriate compensation control voltage, which is applied to an equalizer system. In an alternative embodiment, the skew compensations also provided between red, green, and blue twisted pair lines in the cables by performing comparative analysis between corresponding pairs of the red, green, and blue signals.

The display includes a display panel on which a plurality of data lines are formed, a data driver for supplying data voltages generated by modulating input image data to the respective data lines. The data driver includes a precharging unit for selecting a specific precharge voltage from a plurality of precharge voltages applied to the data driver depending on grayscale sections of the input image data, and for precharging the selected precharge voltages to the respective data lines. A predetermined voltage is precharged according to a grayscale section of image data and then applied to a pixel, whereby voltage rising time and voltage falling time when charging the pixel can be shortened. Therefore, even though the charge time of the pixel is shortened and bias current of the data driver is thus reduced, it is possible to obtain high driving performance.

The pixel clock signal is used to clock sample and hold registers at the projector to preserve the pixel attribute signals received from the graphics source. The preserved pixel attribute signals, along with position signals corresponding to the synchronization signals, are presented directly to the projector. Parameters of the projector are known, and all gain, gamma correction, and scaling are performed before the signals are provided by the graphics source. Thus, it is unnecessary to digitize, store, adjust, or otherwise process pixel attribute signals at the projector, which simplifies processing of the graphics signals and reduces latency in generating the image in response to an input on the display surface.

The TCON transmits the data to the column drivers using separate point-to-point data buses. As each point-to-point data bus contains only the data for its corresponding column driver the instantaneous data rate to any column driver is lower than in conventional multi-drop architectures. The point-to-point system has fewer printed circuit board (PCB) lines and a lower loop area than a conventional multi-drop system. A protocol may also be implemented. The protocol may provide for system level control and coordination of column drivers and other display system components. This protocol allows the TCON to control the operation of the column drivers without the need for extra PCB lines.

Abstract: A display device includes a display unit with a plurality of pixels for displaying picture images, a driving unit for controlling operation of the respective pixels of the display unit, a power control unit for supplying a power to the driving unit and the display unit while controlling the power, and an abnormal operation prevention circuit. The abnormal operation prevention unit prevents the pixels from being deteriorated in display characteristics due to interception of an input signal into the driving unit when the power is continuously supplied to the driving unit from the power control unit.

  • Patent number: 6337542
Abstract: In an electroluminescent (EL) display device having a plurality of organic EL elements, variations in luminance among the EL elements are equalized. EL elements to be driven for a required image display are periodically applied with drive voltages and a recovery voltage, while the other EL elements are periodically applied with a dummy voltage. The period, the repetition period, and the amplitude of the dummy voltage are set not to illuminate the other EL elements, while promoting degradation of the other EL elements to some extent. Alternatively, the drive voltage applied to drive the EL elements for the required image display may be modified in accordance with the degree of degradation thereof.

  • Patent number: 6304255
Abstract: A reference potential generating circuit for liquid crystal display apparatus includes an outside reference potential generating circuit for generating a pair of outside reference potentials, and an inside reference potential generating circuit for generating a pair of inside reference potentials, which are between the outside reference potentials and are independent of the outside reference potentials. The outside or the inside reference potential generating circuit has a variable resister for correcting a deviation of a center potential of the outside or inside reference potentials.

  • Patent number: 6243084
Abstract: Before applying a pulse (Vp) of the first voltage for uniforming charges between each of the first electrodes X and each of the second electrode Y1 to Yn which are adjacent to each other, a pulse (Vpp) of the fifth voltage which has a reverse polarity to that of the pulse of the first voltage and is lower than the pulse of the first voltage and higher than the pulse of the fourth voltage for sustaining a discharge is applied between the first and second electrodes. Thus, in a method for driving a plasma display in which cells are provided at intersections of a plurality of electrodes, a full write discharge is surely caused even if residual wall charges are left, and luminous efficiency is increased.

  • Patent number: 6130654
Abstract: In an active-matrix type liquid crystal display device, a dummy scanning line is provided at a higher position than the top of ordinary scanning liens in the case that a scanning operation is performed from the top of a display region to the bottom thereof. Alternatively, such a dummy scanning line is disposed at a lower position than the bottom of ordinary scanning lines where the scanning operation is performed from the bottom of the display region to the top thereof. Scanning pulses to turn on switching elements as well as compensation pulses are applied to the dummy scanning line as to the ordinary scanning lines to obtain a uniform brightness display on a screen of the active-matrix type liquid crystal display device.

  • Patent number: 5986647
Abstract: An improved technique for driving matrix displays, and in particular, passive matrix displays including row and column configurations of electro-optical display elements (e.g., liquid crystal, LED, plasma, and Electroluminescent). By analyzing illumination information about display elements, a matrix display is more effectively driven. Also, by using the method, the selection ratio in LCD displays is improved.
