Patent number: 8453063Abstract: A display manager determines if a change to one configuration parameter of the display system will affect any of the other configuration parameters of the display system, i.e., whether there is a dependency. If such a dependency exists, the display manager evaluates each of the modes of operation of the display component whose settings will be affected, to identify whether it has any modes that are compatible with the changed configuration of the display system. If so, the display manager selects the configuration mode that is closest to the current mode of the affected component and provides compatibility with the changed configuration. By means of such an approach, the user continues to have access to all components, rather than having to reconfigure and/or restart the computer system due to a change which occurs in the display configuration.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2004Date of Patent: May 28, 2013Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Ian Hendry, Eric Anderson

Patent number: 7633499Abstract: A method, system and apparatus for synchronizing an analog video signal to an LCD monitor is described. For each of a succession of associated video frames are surveyed for a number of displayed features based upon a pseudo-random selection of regions into which the displayed video frame is divided. During successive associated video frames, a minimum number of features each is which is generated by an associated pixel clock is determined based upon a pre-selected number of scans. Subsequent to the determination of the minimum number of features, a transition region for each of plurality of horizontal resolution values is determined by scanning through a selected number of pixel clock phases. Based upon a minimum transition zone corresponding to a maximum change in the number of features for a particular pixel clock phase, an associated horizontal resolution is provided.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2005Date of Patent: December 15, 2009Assignee: Genesis Microchip Inc.Inventor: Greg Neal

Patent number: 7594853Abstract: There is provided a control apparatus for a game or the like, that is capable of automatically carrying out a game or simulation starting/terminating process according to operations performed necessarily in executing the game or simulation. Controllers are mounted on or gripped by a player for operation. Position sensors detect the positional relationship of the controllers with respect to a space for executing the game. A control circuit controls the start/termination of the game, and the, turning-on/off of power sources of the controllers, according to the results of the detection by the position sensors.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2006Date of Patent: September 29, 2009Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hideo Noro, Yasuhiro Okuno

Patent number: 7593026Abstract: A system displays video to a user and has a display device with a field of pixels. It displays video to the user in the form of a series of discrete sequential frame images each made up of a first predetermined number of bit planes in which the pixels of the display are either off or have a color and intensity that is uniform over the field of pixels. The apparatus detects when a movement condition is present, such as rapid head movement or an object in the video crossing the display rapidly, in which condition the user's eye may tend to track across the display device at a rate at which perception of the video displayed may be reduced in quality, and it generates a condition-present signal when such a movement condition is detected. Responsive to generation of said condition-present signal, the apparatus causes the display device to display the frame images using fewer bit planes for each frame image than when said movement condition is not detected.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2005Date of Patent: September 22, 2009Assignee: L-3 Communications CorporationInventor: James A.
