  • Patent number: 8305390
Abstract: A color gamut forming apparatus includes a reference color acquiring unit and a converted color gamut forming unit. The reference color acquiring unit sets at least a saturated color, which is reproducible on a contour of an input color gamut, as a reference input color and acquires a reference output color which is a color obtained by converting the input reference color into a color being reproducible in an output color gamut. The converted color gamut forming unit forms, in the output color gamut, a converted color gamut in which the reference output color corresponding to the saturated color on the contour of the input color gamut is a convex point.

  • Patent number: 8289344
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for achieving color and luminance uniformity in color output devices. In one embodiment, measurements of luminance and chrominance are taken at various regions of the display surface for a range of color inputs. Using the collected data, a color volume is formed for each of the measured regions. This color volume comprises a set of all colors producible at the measured region. The color volumes for each of the measured regions are then used to generate a common color gamut, i.e., a volume of colors that are producible in each of the measured regions. A gamut mapping can then be performed for all or a portion of the positions on the display surface to a target color gamut. Input data for the gamut mapping process may be determined by conventional interpolative techniques.

Abstract: A method is provided for extracting an edge included in a color image formed of first pixels expressed by color component values of three colors. The method includes: calculating a lightness value of the first pixel based on the color component values; determining which one of the low, medium, and high lightness regions, the calculate lightness value belongs to; generating an extraction image formed of second pixels corresponding to the first pixels; and extracting an edge based on the pixel value of the extraction image thus generated. For a first pixel whose lightness value belongs to the medium lightness region and the low or high lightness region, a pixel value is calculated from the color component values of three colors, and from the color component values excluding at least one color, respectively. Then, the edge is extracted based on the calculated pixel value of the extraction image.

Abstract: In an embodiment, an image is provided to an augmented reality application program. The program detects colors and modifies the image. In particular, the program may analyze an image of a scene provided by a camera of a portable electronic device that may be problematic for color challenged users. It then modifies one or more colors such that a color challenged user viewing the altered image may perceive the scene colors as the colors would be perceived by a non-color challenged user viewing the scene.

Abstract: Methods and data processing systems are disclosed for color management in a multiple display system. In one embodiment, a computer-implemented method includes color managing media based on a color gamut of a first display. Then, the method mirrors the media in a mirrored mode onto the first display and a second display. Then, the method processes the media for the second display through a gamma information for the second display. The gamma information is for a non-mirrored mode for the second display. The first and second displays may have different color gamuts. These color gamuts can be used for generating or modifying the gamma information for the second display. The gamma information may provide a color management for the second display that is based on the second display and is independent of the first display.

  • Patent number: 8194280
Abstract: A method and apparatus for direct printing of multiple views of 3-D objects in a PDF file is described. When a PDF file containing 3-D object data is sent to a printer, without using an application or print driver, the controller of a printer generates and prints a plurality of views of the 3-D object based on pre-defined viewing angle settings. The printer controller opens the PDF file, converts the 3-D PDF data to PS data based on the viewing angle, performs raster image processing, prints the bitmap images corresponding to the viewing angle, and repeats the process for all viewing angles. The plurality of views may be printed on separate pages, or on one page in an N-in-1 format. More generally, the method applies to direct printing of files containing objects that are capable of providing multiple appearances, where multiple or desired appearances of the objects are automatically printed.

Abstract: A color image display device is provided to reproduce colors determined by an input video signal in a color space of the display device while keeping a wide color reproducing region of the display device with natural hues. On the assumption that a color space is hypothetically considered so that an input signal is originally in hue in a first color range while an increasing saturation is reproduced with hues changed gradually to a widening direction of color reproduction in a second color range or more, the color converting portion 12 converts a video signal, so that an input video signal 10 is reproduced on a color image displaying portion 13 with a tristimulus value represented in this hypothetical color space, and the color image displaying portion 13 displays, and reproduces, a vivid video image without a feeling of wrongness by making use of a wide color reproduction range of the color image display device.

  • Patent number: 8189016
Abstract: A display system uses a post-scaling module for producing a single scaling factor. A post-scaling unit for scaling image data values is constructed as a function of scaling requirements, such as backlight illumination, saturation of the image data values, and out-of-gamut correction. This single scaling factor may be a function of the scaling requirements. Some of these scaling requirements could be selected from a group scaling considerations, such as saturation based scaling, out-of-gamut scaling, and non-linear scaling. A non-linear scale module could be used to enhance dark color values and may depend on the luminance value of image data values. Once these scaling requirements are determined, there are ways of combining them to create the single scaling factor. These ways may include multiplying the scaling requirements, taking the minimum of them, or taking a combination of them.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for an efficient computational scheme that permits the mapping of a color to a device gamut. In some embodiments, the device gamut may be represented in a device independent color space, which may be a perceptually uniform color space. In some embodiments, a set of non-overlapping contiguous tetrahedra may be used to partition entire device gamut. In some embodiments, the disclosed methods permit the identification of a destination color equivalent to the input color in the device independent space by intelligently narrowing the search space for tetrahedra enclosing the input color in the device gamut and permitting the identification of a color equivalent in the destination gamut in the input color space even when the input color lies outside the searched tetrahedra.

Abstract: A display pipe may include fetch circuitry and a scaler unit, and registers programmable with information that defines active regions of an image frame. Pixels within the active regions are active pixels to be displayed, pixels outside of the active regions are inactive pixels not to be displayed. The fetch circuitry may retrieve frames from memory, retrieving the active pixels and not retrieving the inactive pixels as defined by the programmed contents of the registers. A scaler unit may produce scaled pixels from the fetched pixels, basing each scaled pixel on a respective corresponding set of pixels. When a given pixel of the respective corresponding set of pixels is an inactive pixel, the scaler unit may assign an estimated value to the given pixel based on one or more active pixels in the respective corresponding set of pixels. The scaler unit may provide the scaled pixels to a blend unit for blending with other pixels.
