  • Patent number: 10134330
Abstract: An apparatus includes a display panel. In one example, the display panel includes an array of subpixels in a first, a second, and a third colors. Subpixels in the first, second, and third colors are alternatively arranged in every three adjacent rows of the array of subpixels. Every two adjacent rows of the array of subpixels are staggered with each other. A first subpixel in one of the first, second, and third colors and a second subpixel in a same color as the first subpixel are offset by 3 units in the horizontal axis and 4 units in the vertical axis. The first and second subpixels have a minimum distance among subpixels in the same color.

Abstract: The invention provides a luminance adjustment method and apparatus for RGBW LCD, which uses first and second EOTFs to generate a grayscale luminance lookup table for RGBW LCD, and makes the grayscale-luminance relation in lookup table corresponding to the first EOTF within the grayscale interval between 0 and grayscale threshold; the grayscale-luminance relation in lookup table corresponding to the second EOTF within the grayscale interval between grayscale threshold and 255; the curve slope of the second EOTF greater than the curve slope of the first EOTF within the interval between second luminance threshold and maximum luminance value. By adopting different EOTFs for low and high grayscale intervals, the method considers the poor dark state characteristics of LCD and characteristics of RGBW LCD having higher maximum luminance, and improves the display capability of RGBW LCD in details of high grayscale images.

Abstract: An online content system, such as a digital magazine, includes an image scaling engine for increasing the resolution of images. The image scaling engine comprises a convolutional neural network. An input image is preprocessed for use as inputs to a convolutional neural network (CNN). The preprocessed input image pixel values are used as inputs to the CNN. The CNN comprises convolutional layers and dense layers for determining image features and increasing image resolution. The CNN is trained using backpropagation to adjust model weights and biases. Each convolutional layer of a CNN detects features in an image by comparing image subregions to a set of known kernels and determining similarities between subregions and kernels using a convolution operation. The dense layers of the CNN have full connections to all of the outputs of a previous layer to determine the specific target output result such as output image pixel values.

Abstract: A computing device provides graphical interactive b-spline model selection. A presented criterion fit graph includes a number of internal knots line that indicates a number of internal knots value of a determined best fit b-spline model and a polynomial degree curve for each of a set of polynomial degree values. Each polynomial degree curve shows a fit criterion value as a function of the number of internal knot values. A best fit b-spline model graph is presented next to the presented criterion fit graph that includes a knot location line at each of the knot locations of the determined best fit b-spline model and a best fit model curve computed using the coefficients of the determined best fit b-spline model. An indicator that the number of internal knots line is moved to a different number of internal knots value is received. The best fit b-spline model graph is then updated.
