Patent number: 7808510Abstract: An image processing apparatus, an image transmission apparatus, a display, an image processing method and an image transmission method, capable of suppressing tone or gray-level distortion before and after dithering as well as reducing and then increasing the number of bit-planes of an image. An image processing apparatus comprises a first image processor for performing multi-level dithering based on a two-dimensional dither matrix to reduce the bit-plane number of a raster image as an original image, a memory for storing image data of the raster image whose bit-plane number has been reduced by the first image processor, and a second image processor for performing bit addition for the image data read out from the memory to increase the bit-plane number thereof.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2005Date of Patent: October 5, 2010Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Daigo Miyasaka

Patent number: 7792622Abstract: The method and system for vehicular guidance comprises an imaging device for collecting color image data to facilitate distinguishing crop image data (e.g., crop rows) from background data. A definer defines a series of scan line segments generally perpendicular to a transverse axis of the vehicle or of the imaging device. An intensity evaluator determines scan line intensity data for each of the scan line segments. An alignment detector (e.g., search engine) identifies a preferential heading of the vehicle that is generally aligned with respect to a crop feature, associated with the crop image data, based on the determined scan line intensity meeting or exceeding a maximum value or minimum threshold value.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2005Date of Patent: September 7, 2010Assignees: Deere & Company, Kansas State University Research FoundationInventors: Jiantao Wei, Shufeng Han

Patent number: 7755649Abstract: Sub-pixel rendering with gamma adjustment allows the luminance for the sub-pixel arrangement to match the non-linear gamma response of the human eye's luminance channel, while the chrominance can match the linear response of the human eye's chrominance channels. The gamma correction allows the sub-pixel rendering to operate independently of the actual gamma of a display device. The sub-pixel rendering techniques with gamma adjustment may be optimized for the gamma transfer curve of a display device in order to improve response time, dot inversion balance, and contrast.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2007Date of Patent: July 13, 2010Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Candice Hellen Brown Elliott, SeokJin Han, MoonHwan Im, InChul Baek, Michael Francis Higgins, Paul Higgins

Patent number: 7742059Abstract: Systems and methods, including methods performed by a processing device, are disclosed herein for filling the unused or blank spaces of a display screen. In one exemplary system, among others, the system comprises a display screen configured to display video images and a display screen controller configured to control the display screen. The display screen controller comprising a device for sampling a plurality of pixels from a stream of video images and a device for calculating an average color of the plurality of sampled pixels. Also, the display screen controller includes a device for adding color bands in unused portions of the display screen, the color bands comprising a color corresponding to the calculated average color. With the present system, the difference between the burn-in pattern of a video image and the unused portions of the display screen is reduced, thereby preserving the integrity of the display screen.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2006Date of Patent: June 22, 2010Assignee: Scientific-Atlanta, LLCInventor: Andrey Kouninski

Patent number: 7705855Abstract: A display system includes a subpixelated display panel having subpixels in two saturated primary colors. In one embodiment, the primary colors are selected so as to be a substantially metameric pair for an achromatic color such as white. Information display efficiencies arise from utilizing a checkerboard arrangement for the two primary colored subpixels and from using subpixel rendering algorithms to render an image on the display. The bichromatic display may display a black and white image combined with a monochromatic image, or may provide the capability to overlay a first image from a first image source carried on a chromatic channel onto a second image from a second image source carried on a luminance channel, where the first image source detects light wavelengths that the Human Vision System is not sensitive to, such as infrared light. This latter embodiment of the bichromatic display system is suitable for night vision devices.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2006Date of Patent: April 27, 2010Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventor: Candice Hellen Brown Elliott

Patent number: 7701463Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for accelerated rendering of images with transparent pixels using a spatial index. A determination is made whether anything exists behind an object in an image. If not, then transparent pixels within the object are converted to a background color and rendered as opaque pixels.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2005Date of Patent: April 20, 2010Assignee: Autodesk, Inc.Inventor: Benjamin D.
