Abstract: A display method and apparatus for a navigation system utilizes enables a smooth map scroll operation when a scroll direction is changed sharply. Such a smooth map scroll operation is applied to a situation where such a change of scroll direction is within a predetermined angle range by adding a scroll direction bias for each movement. The display method dynamically adjusts the scroll direction bias and the update frequency depending on the degree of direction change and the available system resources such as a processing speed in the navigation system. Therefore, the navigation system is able to display the smooth operation of the map scroll so that the user is able to recognize the images actually illustrated on the screen and to reach the intended location of the map image quickly and accurately.

  • Patent number: 7446754
Abstract: One-dimensional signals suitable for scrolling or other user interface functions are provided in response to two-dimensional inputs produced by a touchpad or other input device. A current chirality of the two-dimensional inputs is determined to have a first sense if the two-dimensional inputs exhibit a primary clockwise trajectory and a second sense if the two-dimensional inputs exhibit a primarily counter-clockwise trajectory. A one-dimensional variable is accumulated using a magnitude that is a function of a distance reflected by the two-dimensional inputs and a sign that is based upon the current chirality. The one-dimensional inputs to the computing system may then be extracted from the accumulated one-dimensional variable as appropriate. The methods may be modal, thereby allowing the same pointing device to be used for both two-dimensional and one-dimensional input.

Abstract: The invention provides a method and apparatus for an anti-aliasing process that allows for super-sampling at a high subpixel resolution, but does not require the process and memory resources typically required for conventional super-sampling at this subpixel resolution. Each pixel is partitioned into an array that provides for a large number of subpixels, and a smaller set of super-samples from this set of subpixels are sampled and used to determine the resultant pixel values. Because the set of super-samples is substantially smaller in number (less than half) than the number of subpixels, the processing and memory requirements are substantially reduced. The set of super-samples are preferably determined so as to provide for a uniform sampling frequency in each of the major axes, and along each diagonal, even though the super-samples may not provide an uniform sampling of each pixel area.
