    Abstract: A high-throughput automatic analyzer integrates a biochemical analysis section and a blood coagulation analysis section. The analyzer is capable of achieving a reduction in size, system cost, and lifecycle cost. The automatic analyzer includes: a reaction disk; a first reagent dispensing mechanism that dispenses a reagent to reaction cells on the reaction disk; a photometer that irradiates a reaction solution in the reaction cell with light; a reaction cell cleaning mechanism; a reaction vessel supply unit that supplies a disposable reaction vessel for mixing and reacting a sample and a reagent with each other; a second reagent dispensing mechanism that dispenses a reagent to the disposable reaction vessel; a blood coagulation time measuring section that irradiates a reaction solution in the disposable reaction vessel with light to detect transmitted or scattered light; and a sample dispensing mechanism that dispenses a sample to the reaction cell and the disposable reaction vessel.

Another embodiment of the invention is directed to a strip chart recorder, including a housing comprising top and bottom portions, the top portion of the housing having a first mating feature, a bi-metallic element assembly having a second mating feature, and a strip chart positioned on the bottom portion of the housing. The first and second mating features are adapted to engage each other upon closing of the housing.

Pens, which are used to form traces on a chart as this is rotated, are moved by pen actuators along travel paths that are parallel to a straight radius relative to the axis of chart rotation. The pen actuators are electrically moved under the control of a microprocessor to positions as determined by representative of parameter values. Various mechanical and electrical control features are described whereby pen motions are caused intermittently so as to preserve battery power and achieve long term portable operation.

The actuating arm and scribe arm are in turn connected together by a connecting arm which is pivotally connected to the actuating arm at one end and pivotally connected to the scribe arm at its other end.
