  • Patent number: 10298898
Abstract: A smartphone may be freely moved in three dimensions as it captures a stream of images of an object. Multiple image frames may be captured in different orientations and distances from the object and combined into a composite image representing an image of the object. The image frames may be formed into the composite image based on representing features of each image frame as a set of points in a three dimensional point cloud. Inconsistencies between the image frames may be adjusted when projecting respective points in the point cloud into the composite image. Quality of the image frames may be improved by processing the image frames to correct errors. Distracting features, such as the finger of a user holding the object being scanned, can be replaced with background content. As the scan progresses, a direction for capturing subsequent image frames is provided to a user as a real-time feedback.

  • Patent number: 9258471
Abstract: An image pickup apparatus capable of preventing a user who uses another device from knowing the current location of a photographer based on shooting information about an image when an external apparatus distributes the image to the other device. A calculation unit calculates a distance from the shooting location of the image file to the current location of the image pickup apparatus. A distance determination unit determines whether the calculated distance is larger than a predetermined lower limit. A transmission control unit controls to transmit the image file to the external apparatus when the distance determination unit determines that the distance is larger than the lower limit, and not to transmit the image file to the external apparatus when the distance determination unit determines that the distance is not larger than the lower limit.

  • Patent number: 9204172
Abstract: Techniques are provided for encoding an extended image such that it is backwards compatible with existing decoding devices. An extended image format is defined such that the extended image format is consistent with an existing image format over the full range of the existing image format. Because the extended image format is consistent with the existing image format over the full range of the existing image format, additional image information that is included in an extended image can be extracted from the extended image. A base version of an image (expressed using the existing image format) may be encoded in a payload portion and the extracted additional information may be stored in a metadata portion of a widely supported image file format.
