Abstract: A zooming optical system has, from the object side, a positive first group, a negative second group, a positive third group, a positive fourth group, and a negative fifth group. During zooming, at least the third to fifth groups move relative to the image plane, and focusing is achieved by moving the fourth group along the optical axis. The conditional formula ?1.0<M5/f5<?0.1 is fulfilled, where M5 is the distance along the optical axis from the position of the fifth group at the wide-angle end to the position of the fifth group at the telephoto end and f5 is the focal length of the fifth group.

Abstract: An application for a device that includes an image sensor, an orientation sensor and image capture capabilities. Operation of the device is based upon a detected orientation of the device by the orientation sensor. In one embodiment, when the device is in a horizontal orientation, the image capture operates as a digital still image camera and when the device is in a vertical orientation, the image capture operates as a digital video camera. Other orientations are anticipated including upside down as well as other operating modes such as flash enabled and flash disabled. Optionally, a control is provided to lock the operation in one of the modes irrespective of changes in the orientation of the device.

  • Patent number: 8842189
Abstract: A moving image capture apparatus generates a data file to record, on a recording medium, an image signal output from an imaging unit, extracts character information from the image signal to be recorded on the recording medium, sets a parameter value used for selection as a file name according to a characteristic of appearance of the character information, calculates an evaluation value from the set parameter value, and sets character information based on the calculated evaluation value as a file name of the image signal. Furthermore, the moving image capture apparatus generates a thumbnail of the file based on an image signal from which character information for which the calculated evaluation value is relatively large has been extracted.

  • Patent number: 8836806
Abstract: An image pickup apparatus that is capable of taking a distortion-free moving image without enlarging circuit scale. An image sensor has pixels each of which comprises a photoelectric conversion section that generates an electric charge corresponding to the incident light, a charge storage section that stores the electric charge, and an output section that outputs a voltage corresponding to the electric charge. The pixels include a first type pixel with a charge retention section that temporally holds the electric charge before transferring to the charge storage section, and a second type pixel without the charge retention section. A setting unit sets up a mode. A control unit controls to generate an image corresponding the output voltage from the first type pixel in a moving image pickup mode, and to generate an image corresponding to the output voltages from the first and second type pixels in a still image pickup mode.

Abstract: Spatial or temporal interpolation may be performed upon source video content to create interpolated video content. A video signal including the interpolated video content and non-interpolated video content (e.g. the source video content) may be generated. At least one indicator for distinguishing the non-interpolated video content from the interpolated video content may also be generated. The video signal and indicator(s) may be passed from a video source device to a video sink device. The received indicator(s) may be used to distinguish the non-interpolated video content from the interpolated video content in the received video signal. The non-interpolated video content may be used to “redo” the interpolation or may be recorded to a storage medium.
