Abstract: A pixel-interpolation processing unit generates a sensitivity level value of an insufficient color component according to interpolation processing of image signals. A sensitivity level value of an insufficient color component in a pixel of attention is calculated, according to an arithmetic operation corresponding to an acquired color component of the pixel of attention, by assuming a geometric figure including sensitivity level values of acquired color components as vertexes. As the geometric figure, the same figure is used irrespectively of which color component the acquired color component is.

Abstract: A CCD image sensor has an imaging surface composed of an effective pixel area and OB areas, and first and second light receiving element groups on even-numbered and odd-numbered columns respectively in the imaging surface. These light receiving element groups have separately-controllable exposure times, and they are set to low and high sensitivities. An imaging device includes this CCD, a memory storing defective pixel information of the OB areas, an OB clamping circuit for applying an OB clamp processing to the light receiving element groups, and an image processing circuit for generating image data from the output signals of the light receiving element groups after the OB clamp processing. Referring the defective pixel information, a CPU sets one of the light receiving element groups having more OB defective pixels to low sensitivity, and the other having less OB defective pixels to high sensitivity.

Abstract: A digital camera system in which capture, processing and storage functions are partitioned differently than in existing systems. A hand-held digital camera is used with a workstation that may exist in a commercial image processing service center. A minimal amount of image data processing is performed in the digital camera, thereby allowing significant digital camera cost reductions due to lower memory requirements, lower processing requirements, and lower power requirements. Real-time single pass image compression techniques are employed within this digital camera to permit rapid gathering and storage of raw or minimally processed image data. The workstation to which the image data are transferred performs the image processing normally done within existing cameras. This processing takes advantage of the increased computational power that is possible to have in such a workstation, compared to that of a small camera, and the increased time over which such processing may be performed.

The pattern can be such that two blue filters, one red, and one green filter is used by a 2-by-2 square matrix of pixels. The pattern can also include cyan, yellow, and magenta (CYM) filters.

Abstract: A single-site color image, such as a Bayer CCD image, is converted to a color space image using the resource of a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). The Bayer image is loaded into the GPU along with commands to cause the texture engine in the GPU to use the Bayer image as a source texture and to compute, for each pixel in a destination image having same dimensions as the single-site color camera image, interpolated neighbor pixel values from the single-site color camera image for the remainder of said colors. A code image can be used to provide, for each pixel in the destination image, a value for each combination of color space image color and each Bayer image color. Each pixel is then computed as a sum of a product of each code image. value and a corresponding value selected from the corresponding source texture pixels and an interpolation of neighboring source texture pixels.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for adjusting the pixel colors of a digital image. After the raw image data from the digital image is white-balanced, the white-balanced image data is conveyed to a color correction module as color vectors in a color space for color adjustment using a color correction matrix. The color adjustment is based on a plurality of base matrices, wherein at least two of the base matrices are different from each other, and a plurality of weighting values, one weighting value for each base matrix. With the base matrices and the weighting values, a correction matrix can be derived from the sum of the base matrices weighted with said weighting values and applied to at least some of the color vectors.
