  • Patent number: 9699469
Abstract: A solution for adaptively processing a digital image with reduced color resolution is described herein. A source device pre-processes a video frame with reduce color resolution by remapping luma components and chroma components of the video frame, and encodes the pre-processed video frame. The source device remaps a half of luma components on a scan line of the video frame onto a data channel of a source line to an encoder and remaps the other half of the luma components on the scan line to another data channel of the source line. The source device remaps the corresponding chroma components onto a third data channel of a source line. By using a data channel conventionally configured to transmit chroma components, the solution enables a video codec to adaptively encode a digital image with reduced color resolution without converting the digital image to full color resolution before the encoding.

  • Patent number: 9377949
Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a method and a terminal device for selecting a character. The method includes: detecting a touch point of a user gesture acting on the touch screen, wherein the touch point falls into a touch point node; searching a plurality of nodes of the contents to find a nearest text node to the touch point, when the touch point node is not a text node; and selecting a nearest character to the touch point within the nearest text node. Therefore, by taking the nearest character to the touch point in the nearest text node as the character selected by the touch point, even if the touch point of a user gesture does not fall on a character, it is still possible to obtain the character selected by the user gesture, thereby repeated selecting operations may be avoided, so as to provide convenience for the user.

  • Patent number: 9119178
Abstract: Devices and methods for efficient transmission parameter selection are disclosed. A transmission parameter is for use by a wireless communication device (WCD) in a process that includes obtaining a propagation value that is indicative of a radio link between first and second WCDs and obtaining a set of one or more weather values that indicate a weather state at or near the first WCD. In some embodiments, a control unit determines: (1) whether the propagation value satisfies a predetermined propagation condition; and (2) whether the weather state satisfies a predetermined weather condition. The control unit then performs a first transmission parameter selection procedure in response to determining at least that the propagation value satisfies the predetermined propagation condition and the weather state satisfies the predetermined weather condition.

Abstract: An apparatus for detecting vertical blanking interval (VBI) signals and an associated detecting method are disclosed. The apparatus can reduce the probability of false alarm by dynamically adjusting the range of a detection window within the VBI interval, thereby enhancing the detection accuracy. The apparatus includes a detection unit and a window-adjusting unit. The detection unit detects whether a television signal contains a clock run-in signal within the detection window to generate a detection signal. The window-adjusting unit dynamically adjusts the range of the detection window according to the detection signal.

  • Patent number: 8001579
Abstract: A downstream bandwidth output level and/or output level tilt compensation device that can be inserted into a signal transmission line of a CATV system on a premise of a user. The device includes a tuner that identifies low and high band signal channels, and a channel analyzer that determines a format of each of those channels. A signal measurement measures low and high band signal strengths. An offset circuit adds or subtracts an offset value to the low and/or high band channel signal strengths depending on whether the respective channel is analog or digital. A microprocessor compares the low and high band signal strengths, including any offset values, to a predetermined signal strength loss curve. A variable output level compensation device and a variable slope adjusting circuit are provided to amplify and adjust the gain slope of the downstream bandwidth.

Abstract: Methods for discontinuing interference-filter pre-coding of 8-VSB digital television (DTV) signals during ancillary-service transmissions are disclosed that do not disrupt reception of main-service DTV signals by receivers already in use. Receivers are disclosed for receiving ancillary-service transmissions without interference-filter pre-coding, which receivers include adaptive channel-equalization filters and subsequent decoders for CCC. The subsequent decoders for CCC respond to data slicing of adaptive channel-equalization filter responses that avoid the reduction of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) caused by post-comb filtering. Certain of these M/H receivers employ selective post-comb-filtering to flatten the frequency spectrum of main-service components of received 8-VSB DTV signals, while leaving the frequency spectrum of M/H-service components of received 8-VSB DTV signals as received. This is done to generate signal from which filter coefficients for the channel-equalization filters are determined.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a communication system, a transmitter, a receiver, a communication method, a program, and a communication cable for providing high-speed bidirectional communication while maintaining compatibility. When an HDMI (R) source 71 performs bidirectional IP communication with an HDMI (R) sink 72 using a CEC line 84 and a signal line 141, a switching control unit 121 controls a switch 133 so that, when data is transmitted, the switch 133 selects a constituent signal forming a differential signal output from a converting unit 131 and, when data is transmitted, the switch 133 selects a constituent signal forming a differential signal output from a receiver 82. When bidirectional communication is performed using only the CEC line 84, the switching control unit 121 controls the switch 133 so that the CEC signal output from the HDMI (R) source 71 or the receiver 82 is selected. The present invention is applicable to, for example, HDMI (R).

Abstract: Methods and arrangements are disclosed for embedding and detecting a watermark in a cinema movie, such that the watermark can be detected in a copy made by a handheld video camera. The watermark embedder divides each image frame into two areas. A watermark bit ‘+1’ is embedded in a frame by increasing the luminance of the first part and decreasing the luminance of the second part. A watermark bit ‘?1’ is embedded by decreasing the luminance of the first part and increasing the luminance of the second part. It is achieved with the invention that the embedded watermark survives ‘de-flicker’ operations that are often used to remove flicker caused by the different frame rates of cinema projection equipment and consumer camcorders.

Abstract: Systems for generating and transmitting a video stream that is encoded with program data such that when decoded can be executed to update non-volatile storage within a video based electronic device. Typically video based electronic devices are controlled by processors running software stored in writable, non-volatile storage. It is often desirable or necessary to update the software after the device has been shipped from a factory in order to correct a software failure discovered after shipment or to incorporate a new set of features. As many video based electronic devices have no common interface available to connect a computer, there is no ability to receive a software update. However, most video based electronic devices can be connected to a video source. Therefore, systems that allow a video based electronic device to receive, decode, and execute program data that is encoded within a video stream are presented. A method for encoding program code into a video stream is also presented.
