  • Patent number: 8760510
Abstract: A three-dimensional imaging apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes a generated first planar light screen, and a first and second detector offset from the perpendicular plane of the light screen. The first detector is located on a first side of the perpendicular plane, and the second detector is located on the opposite side of the perpendicular plane. The first and second detectors detect the instantaneous projection of the first planar light screen upon an object within the first planar light screen, and to output first and second data corresponding to the detected projection. A velocity sensor determines the instantaneous velocity of the object as the object moves relative to the first planar light screen, and to output third data corresponding to the determined velocity.

  • Patent number: 8705799
Abstract: The path and/or position of an object is tracked using two or more cameras which run asynchronously so there is need to provide a common timing signal to each camera. Captured images are analyzed to detect a position of the object in the image. Equations of motion for the object are then solved based on the detected positions and a transformation which relates the detected positions to a desired coordinate system in which the path is to be described. The position of an object can also be determined from a position which meets a distance metric relative to lines of position from three or more images. The images can be enhanced to depict the path and/or position of the object as a graphical element. Further, statistics such as maximum object speed and distance traveled can be obtained. Applications include tracking the position of a game object at a sports event.

Abstract: Systems and methods may employ separate image sensors for collecting different types of data. In one embodiment, separate luma, chroma and 3-D image sensors may be used. The systems and methods may involve generating an alignment transform for the image sensors, and using the 3-D data from the 3-D image sensor to process disparity compensation. The systems and methods may involve image sensing, capture, processing, rendering and/or generating images. For example, one embodiment may provide an imaging system, including: a first image sensor configured to obtain luminance data of a scene; a second image sensor configured to obtain chrominance data of the scene; a third image sensor configured to obtain three-dimensional data of the scene; and an image processor configured to receive the luminance, chrominance and three-dimensional data and to generate a composite image corresponding to the scene from that data.

  • Patent number: 8605142
Abstract: A digital camera has two imaging units. In a single photography mode, upon a half press of the shutter release button, imaging units carry out preliminary photography at magnifications different from each other. A face detecting section detects persons' faces from a preliminary image captured by each imaging unit. A face comparing section compares the faces between the two preliminary images. A face evaluating section calculates a face evaluation value of each face, and determines ranking of the faces in each preliminary image based on the face evaluation values. Moreover, in consideration of the ranking of the faces determined in the telephoto preliminary image out of the two preliminary images, the face evaluating section corrects the face evaluation values and ranking of the faces in the wide-angle preliminary image. In each imaging unit, photographic conditions for actual photography are determined with giving high priority to the higher-ranked image.

Abstract: The automated camera array calibration technique described herein pertains to a technique for automating camera array calibration. The technique can leverage corresponding depth and single or multi-spectral intensity data (e.g., RGB (Red Green Blue) data) captured by hybrid capture devices to automatically determine camera geometry. In one embodiment it does this by finding common features in the depth maps between two hybrid capture devices and derives a rough extrinsic calibration based on shared depth map features. It then uses the intensity (e.g., RGB) data corresponding to the depth maps and uses the features of the intensity (e.g., RGB) data to refine the rough extrinsic calibration.

Abstract: The glancing angle exclusion technique described herein selectively limits projective texturing near depth map discontinuities. A depth discontinuity is defined by a jump between a near-depth surface and a far-depth surface. The claimed technique can limit projective texturing on near and far surfaces to a different degree—for example, the technique can limit far-depth projective texturing within a certain distance to a depth discontinuity but not near-depth projective texturing.

Abstract: A system and method for enabling parallel decoder implementation for different views, even when there are existing dependencies between views. In various embodiments of the present invention, information is signaled to a decoder that slices are coded using certain constraints, so that parallel decoding of slices is possible. This signaling can be performed at a sequence parameter set level, or it could be performed at picture parameter set level, slice header level or macroblock header level. Additionally, the delay between various views is also signaled to the decoder, at the same location as the constraint information in various embodiments. Various algorithms can also be used to improve the coding efficiency of the system.
