When the HDMI(R) sink 61 can receive the sub-signal, the HDMI(R) source 53 adds a sub-signal to pixel data of a main image composed of pixel data whose number of bits is smaller than that of transmission pixel data transmitted by a transmitter 72, thereby constructing transmission pixel data. This data is transmitted by the transmitter 72 through TMDS channels #0 to #2. Furthermore, the HDMI(R) source 53 transmits a general control packet containing sub-signal information indicating whether or not the sub-signal is contained in the transmission pixel data in the control period of a vertical blanking period. Abstract: A digital television converter is provided, for example for performing all of the functions of a set top box for receiving digital terrestrial or satellite television broadcast signals. The converter comprises a SCART connector for mating with a mating connector on a television apparatus, such as a television receiver or a VCR, which is incapable of reception of digital television broadcasts. This connection provides electrical contact with the apparatus and provides mechanical support for the converter. The converter also comprises a tuner which selects and demodulates a television channel for reception and supplies to the connector signals in a form suitable for use by the television apparatus. A connector rear housing completes the enclosure for the converter containing the tuner.

Abstract: An LCD TV capable of being used as a music station only, which can turn off the internal video decoder and the internal backlight power when the LCD TV only desires to output an audio. The LCD TV panel has a backlight control terminal with a first state and a second state to turn on/off the internal backlight power based on the first or second state. A video decoder has a working mode and a standby mode. When an instruction received by a command input device is a panel backlight power turning-off instruction, a controller produces a control signal to set the backlight control terminal to the second state to thereby drive the LCD TV panel to turn off the backlight power thereon and set the video decoder to the standby mode.

Abstract: Upon reception of a DDC access request from an external device connected to an HDMI port, a television receiver sets an electric potential of an HPD signal to ON level. Upon reception of an HDCP authentication initiation request from the external storage device after EDID is transmitted in response to a request from the external device, it is checked if an HDMI port to which that external device is connected is selected from a plurality of HDMI ports. If it is determined that the corresponding port is not selected, the control waits for selection of an HDMI port to which the external device is connected. If the corresponding port is selected, an electric potential of HPD signal is set at OFF level. After an elapse of 100 msec, the electric potential of the HPD signal is resumed to the ON level.
