  • Patent number: 7840032
Abstract: The claimed subject matter relates to a computer-implemented architecture that can generate a map. The map can be a hybrid between an orthographic projection map and street-side images, thus including useful aspects from both types of representations. For example, an orthographic projection map is very effective at presenting global relationships among the features of the map, but not effective at presenting local detail. In contrast, street-side images show excellent detail, but do not convey the global information of an orthographic projection map. The hybrid map can thus provide a richer set of information than conventional maps, and can also display objects/features of the hybrid map in multiple perspectives simultaneously on a single representation that is printable.

Abstract: There is provided a multi-screen synthesis apparatus that can execute display of video data and update of an OSD image without causing a user to feel a visual sense of incongruity, and reduce system costs. Periodic video source data and aperiodic OSD image data are written into a unified memory reserved for planes. The video source data and the OSD image data are read from the unified memory, based on a synthesis layout, for simultaneous display on a single display in a synthesized state. Video data to be written into the unified memory is decimated in units of a frame on an input video source-by-input video source basis. The decimation of the data is controlled based on display priority of the video data determined based on a multi-screen display layout.

  • Patent number: 7747434
Abstract: A system and method that integrates automated voice recognition technology and speech-to-text technology with automated translation and closed captioning technology to provide translations of “live” or “real-time” television content is disclosed. It converts speech to text, translates the converted text to other languages, and provides captions through a single device that may be installed at the broadcast facility. The device accepts broadcast quality audio, recognizes the speaker's voice, converts the audio to text, translates the text, processes the text for multiple caption outputs, and then sends multiple text streams out to caption encoders and/or other devices in the proper format. Because it automates the process, it dramatically reduces the cost and time traditionally required to package television programs for broadcast into foreign or multi-language U.S. markets.

The video data is encoded such that the encoded video data includes information regarding the multiple display regions. Each of the multiple display regions has an associated display region identifier. Additionally, the system may identify an active region of the video data. The active region may be located anywhere within an image associated with the video data. The video data is encoded such that the encoded video data includes information regarding the active region.

  • Patent number: 7250978
Abstract: A multi-vision system and a method of controlling a display device usable in a multi-vision environment are disclosed. The multi-vision system includes a video source providing a video signal, a user input unit receiving multi-vision arrangement information from a user, a display device coupled to the video source for receiving the video signal. The display device, which is further coupled to the user input unit for receiving the arrangement information, initially determines an image portion of the video signal on the basis of the received arrangement information, adjusts a size of the determined image portion, and displays the size-adjusted image portion. The arrangement information indicates a user-preferred multi-vision arrangement and a position of the display device in the multi-vision arrangement.

  • Patent number: 7151852
Abstract: In a technique for video segmentation, classification and summarization based on the singular value decomposition, frames of the input video sequence are represented by vectors composed of concatenated histograms descriptive of the spatial distributions of colors within the video frames. The singular value decomposition maps these vectors into a refined feature space. In the refined feature space produced by the singular value decomposition, the invention uses a metric to measure the amount of information contained in each video shot of the input video sequence. The most static video shot is defined as an information unit, and the content value computed from this shot is used as a threshold to cluster the remaining frames. The clustered frames are displayed using a set of static keyframes or a summary video sequence. The video segmentation technique relies on the distance between the frames in the refined feature space to calculate the similarity between frames in the input video sequence.

  • Patent number: 7119849
Abstract: There is provided a multi-screen synthesis apparatus that can execute display of video data and update of an OSD image without causing a user to feel a visual sense of incongruity, and reduce system costs. Periodic video source data and a periodic OSD image data are written into a unified memory reserved for planes.
