Abstract: A signal transmitter prevented from outputting an unwanted signal to the outside, which is generated at the time of changing any of various setting parameters such as a channel through which a signal is to be transmitted and the degree of modulation of an intermediate frequency signal to be supplied without deteriorating impedance matching between circuits. This signal transmitter has a local oscillator for outputting a local oscillation signal; a mixer for mixing a supplied television intermediate frequency signal with the local oscillation signal and frequency-converting the resultant signal to a television signal of a specific channel through which the signal is to be transmitted among television channels; and a variable band-pass filter connected at a post stage of the mixer and tuned to the frequency of the specific channel. The tuning frequency of the variable band-pass filter can be shifted out of the frequency band of the specific channel.

  • Patent number: 6831527
Abstract: An insertion box provides a plurality of input and output ports. Each input port corresponds with a predefined and unchanging set of output ports. Insertion of a signal into a particular input port results in that signal being delivered to each of the corresponding output ports. The dissemination functionality is performed by RF circuitry that is typically housed within the insertion box, and is interposed between the input ports and the output ports. The RF circuitry is composed of combiner circuits and splitter circuits. The RF circuitry is designed so that when a combiner is used as an input stage for a splitter, a transformer, usually used to convert an input or output impedance to match a characteristic line impedance, is eliminated. Elimination of such a transformer results in a concomitant reduction in signal loss.

Abstract: Multiple channel maps are embedded in a television transmission and the appropriate channel corresponding to the particular television service used by the viewer is downloaded for use with the television receiver. Each channel map is accompanied by a channel map identifier which identifies the source of the television transmission and a geographic identifier. The source of a television transmission is automatically detected by monitoring the radio-frequency spectrum allocations of telecast stations. The geographic area identifier is determined by comparison with a user inputted geographic area identifier. The channel map having a channel map identifier corresponding to the detected television transmission source and the user inputted geographic area identifier is downloaded and stored for future use.

Abstract: Advertising spots are generated globally, and are subsequently adapted to satisfy one or many local applications. The adaptations are initiated most preferably by an advertiser through encrypted Internet access to a hub in real time. Adaptations, station verification, adapting the actual video/audio stream, logging and invoicing are all performed automatically and in real time. Consequently, an advertiser can modify a global spot for one or more local broadcasts, and can immediately ascertain effectiveness of the modification. Various modifications to the basic steps are disclosed that further enhance the utility of the method.

Abstract: Multiple streams of data are streamed to a user's terminal with images from different cameras. Low resolution thumbnail images tell the user what image streams are available. A focus stream provides high resolution images from a selected camera. A user can switch the focus stream to another stream by clicking on the associated thumbnail. The users can also be provided with a thumbnail of panoramic image. Other data streams sent to the user can contain (a) audio data, (b) interactivity markup data which describes regions of the image which provide interactivity opportunities such as hotspots, (c) presentation markup data which defines how data is presented on the user's screen, (d) a telemetry data stream which can be used for various statistical data. One data stream contains a low quality base image for each data stream which can be enhanced to form a high resolution focus image.

Abstract: A video signal processor reduces the deterioration of image quality due to the superposition of noise on a sync signal included in a luminance signal. A frequency discriminator outputs a first error signal if a ratio of the frequency of a frequency-modulated signal during a sync-signal interval to the frequency of a reference frequency signal is smaller than a predetermined ratio. Alternatively, the discriminator outputs a second error signal if the ratio is greater than the predetermined ratio. If the first error signal has been input to a frequency controller a preset number of times or more during an interval before the second error signal is input thereto, the controller instructs a frequency modulator to increase the frequency of the frequency-modulated signal.

Abstract: A radio receiver for receiving a selected digital TV signal uses final intermediate frequency signals the carrier frequencies of which are multiples of symbol rate. The radio receiver has a match filter receptive of rectified samples of digitized intermediate-frequency signal and responsive to the amplitude of the intermediate-frequency carrier being modulated in accordance with the field synchronization code group to generate a pulsed response to the beginning of each data field. This pulsed response is used to determine when data segment synchronization information should occur, so its detection is more certain to be accurate and data segment synchronization is more rapidly determined. Symbol synchronization is rapidly inferred from the field synchronization and data segment synchronization, so that the samples in each data line can be counted.

A digital-to-analog converter converts the digital signals into analog signals. A series circuit is provided including a radio frequency filter and a radio frequency amplifier located downstream from the converter and wherein the filter and the amplifier respectively introduce linear and non-linear distortions into the analog signals for transmission by the transmitter.
