Abstract: A method for transmitting/receiving a broadcasting signal and a broadcasting signal receiver are disclosed. An identifier of a burst period is obtained from program table information of the broadcasting signal including mobile data and only the burst period in which a broadcasting program desired by a user is transmitted is received. Accordingly, when the broadcasting signal is received, only a desired burst period is received such that power consumption of the broadcasting signal receiver can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 7263713
Abstract: In a television signal transmission system, CS broadcasting signals received via a master antenna are converted into intermediate frequency signals in an LNB (Low Noise Block Down Converter). The CS intermediate frequency signals then undergo conversion of the modulation format, for example, from QPSK into 64-QAM, so that CS broadcasting signals from each transponder, having a bandwidth of, for example, 27 MHz, are accommodated in a narrower bandwidth, for example, 6 MHz, which is equivalent to one channel of terrestrial broadcasting services. Then, the signals accommodated in the narrower bandwidth is frequency-shifted into a vacant frequency band in the VHF band or the UHF band. Accordingly, the CS signals accommodated in the narrower band and frequency-shifted into the vacant band are multiplexed with terrestrial broadcasting signals in the VHF and UHF bands and BS intermediate frequency signals so that all these signals are delivered to each household via a single cable.

Abstract: The depth of modulation and the absolute RF carrier level of an amplitude-modulated video signal are automatically adjusted. For adjustment of the depth of modulation, a sync tip of the video signal is sampled, corrected and normalized to a reference level, e.g., a 50% video level. A reference pulse is inserted into the video signal, e.g., in a sync pulse or in lines 22 and/or 23 of the vertical blanking interval. The reference pulse is sampled and compared to the normalized sync tip pulse to determine an error. The error is converted to an adjustment signal for a charge pump which increases or decreases the depth of modulation accordingly. For adjustment of the absolute carrier level, the insertion of a reference pulse is not required. Instead, a reference value is stored in a memory and retrieved for comparison with the corrected sync tip pulse. An error term is computed and converted to an adjustment signal for a charge pump which increases or decreases the absolute carrier level accordingly.

Abstract: A system and method for synchronizing signals having respective sub-carriers in a signal processing system. Various aspects of the present invention may comprise method steps and structure that receive a sampled signal with an associated sub-carrier. Various aspects may determine a phase of the sub-carrier and store an indication of such phase. Various aspects may generate and store a cropped version of the sampled signal. Various aspects may also store an indication of which samples were cropped from the sampled signal. Various aspects may produce a synchronization signal based on the sampled signal. Various aspects may read a cropped version of a sampled signal and an associated indication of phase. Various aspects may generate a restored sampled signal by adding samples to the read cropped version. Various aspects may, based on the synchronization signal and indication of phase, output the restored sampled signal aligned with a second sampled signal.

Abstract: A local digital TV signal generator is disclosed, which generates an ATSC RF signal that can be received by a digital TV. Synchronization between a memory device and a VSB remodulator is performed through a controller, and data conversion adapted to the VSB modulator is performed so that streams of ATSC standards are read out from MPEG streams stored in the memory device, thereby outputting an RF signal. Accordingly, the local digital TV signal generator has the low cost and a small volume to facilitate movement as compared with the related art. Since the local digital TV signal generator is mounted inside or outside the PC and implemented using an operating system (O/S) for PC, it is simple and easy in installation and use. Furthermore, since the streams stored in the memory device can be reduced without an external device, it is useful in view of aspects such as mobility, economical efficiency, and maintenance.

Abstract: A system supplies a compressed digital signal to a digital television receiver and includes a source of compressed baseband signal. An encoder encodes the baseband signal in a digital format, and the baseband signal has a frequency. The frequency of the encoded baseband signal is shifted by a first frequency shifter. A first interpolator interpolates an output of the first frequency shifter, a second interpolator that interpolates an output of the first interpolator, and a third interpolator that interpolates an output of the second interpolator. A second frequency shifter shifts a frequency of an output of the third interpolator to produce a signal at a selected channel.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for transmission of audio signals over a dedicated video transmission line in which the analog audio signal is inserted into and becomes a part of the video signal. Samples of the audio signal are inserted into the active video line, either at the beginnings or endings, or both, of each active video line scan signal. A defined amount of the active video interval is reserved from the active video line, and is replaced with samples of the analog audio signal. An analog switch in the modulator of the invention toggles to pick up the samples of audio and place them at the designated location (either at the beginnings or at the ends) of each active video line scan signal. A corresponding switch in the demodulator of the invention toggles to retrieve the audio samples from the active video line scans for output to the user. Stereo and/or bi-directional audio signals can be transmitted by insertion into both the beginnings and the endings of the active video line scan signals.

Abstract: A digital television transmitter for an ATSC or NTSC signal includes a digital vestigial sideband modulator having a digital sinusoidal source. A digital multiplier arrangement multiplies a digital signal including the information in the digital television signal by a sequence derived by the digital sinusoidal source to derive plural orthogonally phased digital product signals. A digital lowpass filter arrangement passes low frequency components of the plural digital product signals and rejects high frequency components of the plural digital product signals. A signal combiner arrangement combines a carrier with signals containing information passed by the lowpass filter arrangement necessary to derive a vestigial sideband signal. The combiner arrangement includes at least one digital to analog converter that in different embodiments derives a vestigial sideband signal that modulates an I.F. or R.F. carrier.

Abstract: An apparatus for transmitting multimedia data to a set-top box for distribution to a headend of a cable television. The apparatus includes an input for a signal containing multimedia data. The apparatus has a module for compressing the multimedia data and also a packetizing module. The packetizing module adds a header. Since the headend is the only destination of the multimedia data, a destination address is unnecessary in the header, but the header does include an indicator as to source and an order identifier for each of the packets. The headend can then receive the packets, re-order the packets and decompress the multimedia data. The data may then be processed by a processor at the headend that is assigned at the beginning of an interactive session.

Abstract: A cable distribution system with distributed architecture that can accommodate both digital and analog subscribers. Each home has at least one Room Interface Unit (RIU), one for each television. There is a local service module associated with a group of RIUs (e.g., one for every ten RIUs). There is also a local headend in the vicinity. The local headend has a block of integrated tuner/receiver/decoders that can be controlled to tune in a selected video channel. The selected video channels and a group of standard channels are multiplexed and sent to the local service modules where a group of programmable converters (one for each RIU) place the channel selected by its corresponding RIU at a predetermined frequency. Each of the RIUs associated with a particular local service module receive the corresponding channel. Depending upon whether the subscriber has subscribed to digital or analog service, they will have either a digital or an analog RIU.

Abstract: An audio/visual distribution system includes head end equipment for receiving a radio frequency audio-visual (A/V) signal from an information source, and a plurality of transmitters and receivers. The transmitters are coupled to the head end equipment and tune to any of a plurality of RF channels, convert the RF signal to a baseband A/V signal and transmit the baseband signal over twisted pair cabling for a distance of up to 2000 feet. The receivers receive the baseband signal and reconvert the baseband signal to an RF signal. The transmitters utilize differential drivers which receive voltages from a filtered split supply power source in order to drive the baseband signals over twisted pairs. The receivers include equalizers utilized in conjunction with the video signal, and differential amplifiers. The receivers generate NTSC baseband (stereo) audio and video signals and/or an RF signal.
