Search Tuning Patents (Class 348/732)
  • Patent number: 5877822
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method and a circuit for storage of digital tuning data and parameters for a number of television channels in a rewritable memory. The channel search is initialized by pressing a single button to initialize a scan of the reception frequency band. The scanning of the frequency range is interrupted for a preset time-out period .DELTA.t each time a stop-scan signal is generated and resumes automatically until the entire range has been scanned. After each stop-scan pulse, if the single button is pressed during a time-out period, At, the system begins toggling through the possible values of each parameter relating to the station, the current value of the parameter being memorized when the single button is pressed again. The invention also includes a television and video cassette recorder implementing the above method.

  • Patent number: 5805230
Abstract: The disclosure is an automatic programming method for a tuner of a television and/or video recorder that makes use of data received by cable or terrestrial or satellite radio, and a device implementing this method. The method involves the transmission of a set of channel tables, each corresponding to a broadcasting station, using the CEEFAX standard. The television or video recorder memorizes the table corresponding to the postal ZIP code previously input by the user, then automatically programs the tuner. The invention is applicable for all types of television standards (PAL, PAL+, SECAM, NTSC, D2MAC, HDMAC, digital standards, etc.) and to all types of signal formats transmitted with the video signals.

  • Patent number: 5771080
Abstract: A television signal tuning device having a memory which is adapted to store central frequency data for starting a synchronizing-signal detecting operation for all the channels and frequency division ratio data thereof. In a data presetting operation for each of the channels, a CPU causes a phase-locked loop circuit to perform a phase-locking operation for every data piece of the central frequency data or frequency division ratio data thereof which are stored in the memory for each channel. When the CPU detects a synchronizing signal from a video signal processing circuit in any one of the phase-locking operations which are successively performed by the phase-locked loop circuit, the CPU immediately renews the channel number and the tuning data thereof in the memory without performing the detection of an AFC variation. This feature greatly reduces the period of time required for the data presetting operation for each channel.

  • Patent number: 5768468
Abstract: The programming of a broadcast receiver is selected from the display and the mapping of the required numbers is fully automatic. The user enters a code and the VCR decodes the entered code to determine the corresponding channel. The VCR then checks to determine if this channel is mapped. If not, the VCR prompts the user to identify which program one wishes to record. A picture on the TV, in a mixed mode, can be used for this, i.e., the TV program selected is shown on the background behind the text. The user uses keys on the remote control to scroll through the list of channels to find the program one wants to record. Once determined, the VCR will automatically map the correct three digit numbers for the program selected. In this way, the user need not know what the selection number represents.
