Abstract: A television system (2) is provided of the type including a broadcast data receiver (BDR) (4) for receiving data transmitted from a broadcaster at a remote location via cable, satellite and/or terrestrial broadcast systems. The BDR (4) decodes and processes the data to provide video, audio and/or auxiliary data for display on a display screen (6), listening to via speakers and/or for storage in the hard disk drive of the BDR (4) for subsequent display/listening at some time in the future. One or more points of reference can be labelled in incoming data and/or stored data in the BDR (4), such that on selection of a reference function in the BDR by the user using remote control means (10), the one or more reference points of data are assembled in sequence for display on the display screen (6) and/or listening to via the speakers.

Abstract: Buzz reduction circuit for eliminating a vertical period buzz without being influenced by amplifier circuits in an audio signal line. A video signal of a VCR video head is input to a vertical synchronizing signal separating circuit to separate a vertical synchronizing signal. A vertical synchronizing pulse is obtained by an integral circuit and a vertical period buzz reduction signal is produced by a vertical period buzz reduction circuit, said vertical period buzz reduction signal having an equal output level and an inverted phase in comparison with the vertical period buzz. The vertical period buzz reduction signal is inputted to a pre-stage of an audio amplifier circuit in an audio output line of a linear audio head to reduce the vertical period buzz included in an output signal of the linear audio head.

Abstract: A digital television receiver converts very-high-frequency intermediate-frequency digital television signal to a band with uppermost frequency in the lower portion of the high-frequency range. This facilitates RLC analog filtering, such as a Butterworth-Thomson-transition filter or a bridged-T trap filter, being used for suppressing the frequency-modulated audio carrier of co-channel NTSC analog television signal prior to the digital television signal being synchrodyned to baseband for recovering symbol code. The delay distortion introduced by this analog filtering is compensated for in substantial part in surface-acoustic-wave bandpass filtering of the very-high-frequency intermediate-frequency digital television signals. Remnant delay distortion is reduced by channel equalization filtering carried out in the digital regime.

  • Patent number: 5995169
Abstract: In an SIF signal processing circuit, an SIF signal, which is an FM signal having a carrier frequency equal to a frequency difference between a video IF carrier and a sound IF carrier, is first converted to a lower carrier frequency common to SIF signals of any broadcasting system, and is then demodulated. The SIF processing circuit is provided with a PLL circuit for converting an SIF signal down to a lower frequency, so that an output from the PLL circuit is mixed with the SIF signal. The output of the PLL circuit is varied in accordance with a broadcasting system. A plurality of frequencies can be easily obtained from the PLL circuit simply by controlling a frequency division factor of its frequency divider. Thus, resonators can be dispensed with except for one for generating a reference oscillation signal.

Abstract: In the karaoke system 1, a center 3 is connected to a plurality of karaoke terminals 5 by a coaxial cable 7. The center 3 divides the karaoke song data stored in the memory device 13 over several channels and transmits all the karaoke song data within a fixed time period in succession to the karaoke terminals 5 via the coaxial cable 7. This operation is performed regardless of whether or not a song is requested from one of the karaoke terminals 5. Whether the karaoke data transmitted in succession is data of a requested song is determined by the control portion 41 of a karaoke terminal 5. If so, karaoke performance processes are performed wherein the karaoke data is reproduced and the orchestral accompaniment and lyric image is outputted.

Abstract: A radio frequency (RF) modulation apparatus for modulating input video and audio signals into a television broadcast signal is provided. The apparatus includes a buffer amplifier, a decoder, a switching device, and an RF modulator. The buffer amplifier amplifies and stores the input audio signal as a stored audio signal. The decoder inputs and decodes the stored audio signal to produce a decoded audio signal. The switching device inputs the stored audio signal from the buffer amplifier and the decoded audio signal from the decoder and selectively outputs either the stored audio signal or the decoded audio signal as a selected audio signal. Specifically, the stored audio signal is output as the selected audio signal if the input audio signal corresponds to a stereophonic audio signal or an audio multiplexing signal. On the other hand, the decoded audio signal is output as the selected audio signal if the input audio signal corresponds to a mono audio signal.
