  • Patent number: 8654264
Abstract: Laser projection system suitable for commercial motion picture theaters and other large screen venues, including home theater, uses optical fibers to project modulated laser beams for simultaneously raster scanning multiple lines on screen. Emitting ends of optical fibers are arranged in an array such that red, green and blue spots are simultaneously scanned onto the screen in multiple lines spaced one or more scan lines apart. Use of optical fibers enables scanning of small, high resolution spots on screen, and permits convenient packaging and replacement, upgrading or modification of system components. Simultaneous raster scanning of multiple lines enables higher resolution, brightness, and frame rates with available economical components. Fiber-based beam coupling may be used to greatly enhance the flexibility of the system.

  • Patent number: 8643792
Abstract: A rear projection imaging system with an image warping distortion correction system using a camera and processing unit to generate a warping map that corrects for image distortion. The warping map is generated in an iterative process by displaying a known pattern on a viewing screen and, through the use of a camera, having a microprocessor determine the location and shape of the pattern on the screen. The microprocessor then compares the displayed image to the original reference image, calculates the distortion effects present in the projection optics, and generates a warping map.

Abstract: The present invention provides a projection display apparatus realizing improved operability at the time of registration adjustment irrespective of a use situation of the apparatus. In the case where misregistration occurs between primary color lights, video signals for three colors are corrected (registration adjustment is performed) so as to reduce the misregistration in accordance with an input adjustment value. An image inverting process is performed on an input video signal so that the image is inverted in a display screen. By a configuration by the user, the image is properly inverted in the display screen. When the image inverting process is performed, an adjustment value, with a sign different from that in the misregistration direction in a coordinate system where the image is not inverted, is input by an operation on the display screen.

Abstract: A mobile device such as a robot includes a processor, a memory that stores components executable by the processor, and a projection assembly. The projection assembly includes a projector, a lens, a movable mirror, and a first projection surface integral with a surface of the mobile device. The components include a projection component and a control component. The projection component determines the projection parameters, and projects the image onto the movable minor, dependent upon the projection parameters. The control component causes the projector and the lens to focus the image onto the first projection surface, and further causes the movable mirror to reflect the image onto the first projection surface.

Abstract: In projection television (PTV) systems utilizing folded optical systems such as a rear projection CRT, DLP, LCD, or LCOS based televisions, or the like, an automatic geometric alignment (AGA) system including a first programmable logic, a second programmable logic operably coupled to the first programmable logic, and light sensors positioned in the over-scan region along the border of the screen and operably coupled to first programmable logic. In operation, the first programmable logic causes an on screen display (OSD) system to display and move test patterns on the screen and, using feed back data received from the light sensors, determines the geometric alignment and/or pin cushion effect error in the displayed test pattern. The second programmable logic, which includes deflection shaping circuitry to align, center or steer the beams from the projection systems, utilizes data received from the first programmable logic to compensate for geometric alignment error.

Abstract: In the usage of table projection of a projection type display, depending upon a sitting position of a participant of a conference, the participant views an image projected upon a table as an inversion image turned upside down, resulting in poor visual recognition. In order to improve visual recognition, images are rotated, synthesized and displayed in accordance with the viewing direction of each participant. More specifically, the projection type display is provided with a two-image synthesizing unit for synthesizing two images obtained by processing an input image by two image rotation units for rotating the input image by a first angle and a second angle different from the first angle, into one image on a screen. The projection type display is also provided with an image rotation unit and an image inversion unit for two-image display on a screen.

Abstract: A projection display apparatus includes: a light source; a spatial light modulation device modulating, on the basis of a video signal, each of primary color lights for color display emitted from the light source; projecting means for projecting, onto a screen, each of the primary color lights modulated by the spatial light modulation device; and correcting means for correcting, based on a given correction value, the video signal for each of the primary color lights so as to reduce misregistration between the primary color lights projected on the screen, and supplying the corrected video signal to the spatial light modulation device. The correcting means is configured to correct the video signal according to a single correction value such that a group of correction target points selected in a projected image on the screen are collectively processed as a single correction unit.

Abstract: First, a delivery delay, i.e. the time it takes for a content to be captured and a representative frame made available (i.e. delivered), is determined. Second, a video capture interval, i.e. a minimum time delay requirement between stable captured content frames, is determined. In other words, the recycle time-period after which it is safe to change frame content during a capture interval without impacting a prior stable video frame in the pre-delivery stage is determined.

  • Publication number: 20120242911
Abstract: An image projection apparatus comprises a light projector (605) which projects an image onto a surface (603) of an object. A focussing processor (609) is arranged to focus the image on an image plane (607) and a controller (611) dynamically varies the position of the image plane (607) relative to the surface (603). The movement may be a predetermined periodic movement and the surface may specifically be a non-planar surface. The movement may result in a blurring effect independent of distance, and may specifically provide a blurring effect that can be pre-compensated by pre-filtering of the image to be projected. The invention may allow improved quality of a projected image, such as e.g. of an image projected on a non-planar or moving surface.

Abstract: A method for correcting a projection from a plurality of digital projectors is provided. The method includes receiving as an input a matrix which maps each pixel to be projected to a captured pixel that includes a row value and a column value and detecting a shift with respect row or column values in the matrix. The method further includes determining attributes of the shift, wherein the attributes include a type for the shift and an overlap length for the shift. A gradient length is determined from the overlap length. A gradient of pixel weightings is generated for each gradient length. The pixel weightings are uniformly sloping and are associated with pixels in the gradient length and neighboring pixels. Intersecting gradients re merged and a list that includes common points and diagonal points is created from the merging process. The method operations may be embodied as code on a computer readable storage medium.
