  • Patent number: 8243144
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention include systems and methods for obtaining a light transport between a projector and a camera. In embodiments, the light transport between the projector and the camera is represented as a matrix and is obtained assuming that the projector displays on a surface that is planar or at least substantially planar. The light transport matrix is obtained by finding a homography between the projector and the camera. Using the homography to correlate camera and projector pixels and using color values in a captured solid color image, the light transport matrix can be obtained. In embodiments, at least an approximation of an inverse light transport matrix can also be computed, which is useful for many applications, such as inferring unknown projector images.

  • Patent number: 8237873
Abstract: Three or more projectors project their respective images to form a composite image. In some cases all three projected images overlap. In order to compensate for distortions in this overlap, blending values are assigned to the projector pixels that contribute to the overlap regions. Pixels that contribute to the overlap of two projectors are assigned a blending value associated with this projector pair. Pixels that contribute to the overlap of three projectors are assigned a blending value that is the greater of the two blending values associated with the two projector pairs, after such blending value has been scaled.

  • Patent number: 8228445
Abstract: A rear projection imaging system with an image warping distortion correction system using a camera and processing unit to generate a warping map that corrects for image distortion. The warping map is generated in an iterative process by displaying a known pattern on a viewing screen and, through the use of a camera, having a microprocessor determine the location and shape of the pattern on the screen. The microprocessor then compares the displayed image to the original reference image, calculates the distortion effects present in the projection optics, and generates a warping map.

Abstract: A multi-screen display apparatus is a multi-screen display apparatus in which screens of a master apparatus and slave apparatuses are arranged. Each of the master apparatus and the slave apparatuses includes a light source for three primary colors formed of a semiconductor light emitting element, and a memory circuit for storing a brightness corresponding to a control current that is specific to each of the primary colors of the light source. The master apparatus determines a common target brightness based on the brightness outputtable by the master apparatus itself and the brightnesses outputtable by other apparatuses. Each of the master apparatus and the slave apparatuses reads, as a target control current, the control current corresponding to the target brightness from the memory circuit, and supplies the target control current to the light source.

Abstract: The present invention provides a projection display apparatus realizing improved operability at the time of registration adjustment irrespective of a use situation of the apparatus. In the case where misregistration occurs between primary color lights, video signals for three colors are corrected (registration adjustment is performed) so as to reduce the misregistration in accordance with an input adjustment value. An image inverting process is performed on an input video signal so that the image is inverted in a display screen. By a configuration by the user, the image is properly inverted in the display screen. When the image inverting process is performed, an adjustment value, with a sign different from that in the misregistration direction in a coordinate system where the image is not inverted, is input by an operation on the display screen.

  • Patent number: 8047660
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a projection display system includes a spatial light modulator and a volume illumination hologram. The spatial light modulator comprises a digital micromirror device, and the projection system includes a laser light source to produce a sequence of collimated, colored, light beams for the illumination hologram. Waste light produced by the spatial light modulator is transmitted to the illumination hologram, and the illumination hologram emits waste light from at least one of its edges. Waste light emitted from an edge of the illumination hologram is absorbed by a light sensor to control the intensity of the light beams. A projection focusing element is mounted proximate a side of the illumination hologram to focus the image beam from the spatial light modulator for viewing. A projection hologram is interposed between the side of the illumination hologram and the projection focusing element to manage waste light.

Abstract: A method for correcting a projection from a plurality of digital projectors is provided. The method includes receiving as an input a matrix which maps each pixel to be projected to a captured pixel that includes a row value and a column value and detecting a shift with respect row or column values in the matrix. The method further includes determining attributes of the shift, wherein the attributes include a type for the shift and an overlap length for the shift. A gradient length is determined from the overlap length. A gradient of pixel weightings is generated for each gradient length. The pixel weightings are uniformly sloping and are associated with pixels in the gradient length and neighboring pixels. Intersecting gradients re merged and a list that includes common points and diagonal points is created from the merging process. The method operations may be embodied as code on a computer readable storage medium.
