Publication number: 20120242803Abstract: A conventional device adjusts the convergence angle of its imaging unit in a manner that the left-and-right face detection areas are at the same coordinates and thus forms a stereo image that will be placed on a display screen during display, but fails to place a subject at an intended stereoscopic position. A stereo image capturing device (1000) detects a face area from a right image, detects a disparity using the left-and-right face areas, and sets the imaging parameters (the subject distance, focal length, stereo base, and convergence angle) to adjust the detected disparity to a disparity enabling the subject to be placed at an intended placement position. Publication number: 20120169841Abstract: A disclosed downhole optical imaging tool includes a light source and a camera enclosed within a tool body having at least two sidewall windows. A first window transmits light from the light source to a target region in the borehole, while a second window passes reflected light from the target region to the internal camera. The target region is spaced along the borehole away from the second window in a direction opposite the first window. In some embodiments, this configuration is provided by angling the first and second windows with respect to the sidewall, or by shaping the windows to cast and receive light from a “forward” direction. Some tool embodiments include motion and/or orientation sensors that are employed by a processor to combine separately captured images into a panoramic borehole image. It can be employed during drilling operations employing air or a substantially transparent liquid as a drilling fluid.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 24, 2010Publication date: July 5, 2012Applicant: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Roland E. Publication number: 20120162366Abstract: High dynamic range 3D images are generated with relatively narrow dynamic range image sensors. Input frames of different views may be set to different exposure settings. Pixels in the input frames may be normalized to a common range of luminance levels. Disparity between normalized pixels in the input frames may be computed and interpolated. The pixels in the different input frames may be shifted to, or stay in, a common reference frame. The pre-normalized luminance levels of the pixels may be used to create high dynamic range pixels that make up one, two or more output frames of different views. Further, a modulated synopter with electronic mirrors is combined with a stereoscopic camera to capture monoscopic HDR, alternating monoscopic HDR and stereoscopic LDR images, or stereoscopic HDR images.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 14, 2011Publication date: June 28, 2012Applicant: DOLBY LABORATORIES LICENSING CORPORATIONInventors: Ajit Ninan, Scott Daly, Gregory John Ward, Robin Atkins

Publication number: 20090207167Abstract: An information handling system (IHS) for three-dimensional (3D) image processing may include a stereo image frame buffer that stores two images of a frame, the stereo image frame buffer including a three dimensional rendering surface. A fetcher fetches the two images from the stereo image frame buffer. An encoder encodes the two fetched images. A packager packages the two encoded images of the frame into a single data block for transmission to a remote viewer. A remote IHS receives the single data block via a network. The remote IHS may include a de-packager that receives a single data block that includes two encoded images of a frame. The de-packager de-packages the single data block into two encoded images. A decoder decodes the two encoded images of the frame. A sender sends the two decoded images to left and right buffers, respectively, of a three dimensional stereo rendering surface for display by the remote IHS which acts as a remote viewer.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 10, 2009Publication date: August 20, 2009Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Davide Pasetto
