Abstract: An active matrix substrate has a plurality of TFT elements provided in a matrix form, a gate line block and a source line block for supplying signals to the TFT elements, and a short circuit member for short-circuiting the gate line block and the source line block. The short circuit member includes a first segment and a second segment provided parallelly to each other between the gate line block and the source line block. The first segment changes from a short-circuiting state to an insulating state with laser radiation. The second segment either changes from an insulating state to a short-circuiting state with laser radiation, or has a higher electric resistance than the first segment in the short-circuiting state. Hence, destruction of insulating films and, hence, inadequate display are prevented even after inspection.
Abstract: This invention relates to customized electronic identification of desirable objects, such as news articles, in an electronic media environment, and in particular to a system that automatically constructs both a "target profile" for each target object in the electronic media based, for example, on the frequency with which each word appears in an article relative to its overall frequency of use in all articles, as well as a "target profile interest summary" for each user, which target profile interest summary describes the user's interest level in various types of target objects. The system then evaluates the target profiles against the users' target profile interest summaries to generate a user-customized rank ordered listing of target objects most likely to be of interest to each user so that the user can select from among these potentially relevant target objects, which were automatically selected by this system from the plethora of target objects that are profiled on the electronic media.

Abstract: Common lines are formed in parallel with gate lines. A line which joins those parallel lines is provided in parallel with source lines on the substrate edge part on the gate line terminals side. Another line which joins the same parallel lines is provided in parallel with source lines on the substrate edge part on the opposite side of the gate line terminals. These two terminals are supplied with a signal which is identical with the common signal being applied to an opposing electrode. Depressed portions are provided for each pixel electrode at positions where the source line and common line intersect with each other or in the vicinity of the source line on both sides thereof.
Abstract: A liquid crystal display according to this invention has at least two repair lines. A first repair line crosses twice the data lines lying on the center portion of the substrate and once the some data lines which a second repair line crosses twice among the remainings. The data lines not lying on the center portion is shorter than the remaining data lines so that they do not cross the first repair line.
