Patent number: 5517258Abstract: Disclosed is an eyeglasses frame using temple joints improved according to the present invention. Each hinge assembly is fixed to the joint piece of either side of the frame. It comprises an engagement piece having an axle transversing in its recess end, and a hollow sheath having a lever pivotally fixed to its open end and a spring-biased slider contained therein. The slider has a hook end. The engagement piece is fixed to the joint piece, and the sheath is fixed to the temple. The temple is connected to the front by inserting the hook of the slider in the recess of the engagement piece, and then the temple is pulled to the engagement piece by the resilient force, which is applied to the slider all the time. Thus, the temple-to-front connection is assured to be tight, still permitting the stable opening-and-folding of the temple relative to the front.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1994Date of Patent: May 14, 1996Assignees: Kabushiki Kaisha Nakanishi Optical, Hideo YoshidaInventor: Yoshie Naito

Patent number: 4244081Abstract: A hinge for spectacles consists of two parts one of which one has a cam surface while the other part comprises a blind cylindrical housing in which are arranged at least one spring and one ball bearing, with the spring pushing the ball bearing against the cam surface. To avoid excessive wear of the cam surface and to facilitate the dismantling of the hinge, the hinge includes an intermediate part located in the housing between the ball bearing and the spring. The intermediate part provides less friction with the ball bearing than the friction between that ball bearing and the cam surface. The housing is provided with devices for retaining its contents which devices reduce the open cross section of the opening of the housing.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1979Date of Patent: January 13, 1981Assignee: La National S.A.Inventors: Karl Beyer, Conrad Zellweger

Patent number: 4222148Abstract: A hinge for spectacles includes two parts, the first of which has a cam profile provided by one face of a strip of generally U-shape, the other part comprising a cam follower button of generally rectangular shape. The first part of the hinge is made of a ductile metal whereas the strip providing the cam profile is made of a material having a greater hardness than the first part of the hinge. A spring urges the cam follower button against the cam profile which has a relatively large surface for supporting the face of the button.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1978Date of Patent: September 16, 1980Assignee: La Nationale S.A.Inventors: Conrad Zellweger, Joseph Biondina

Patent number: 4005930Abstract: A resilient hinge for a pair of spectacles comprises a first part fixed to the spectacle frame and a second part hinged on the first part. The second part is extended by a cylindrical tube on which is slidably mounted a cylindrical sleeve to which an arm is fixed. A transverse pin fixed in the sleeve passes through opposed slots in the tube to angularly fix the sleeve on the tube. A spring in the tube urges a yoke-shaped stud against said pin to bias said tube, relative to said sleeve, towards the free end of the arm. Angular positioning of the tube and sleeve can be provided by cooperating longitudinal ribs.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1975Date of Patent: February 1, 1977Assignee: La Nationale S.A.Inventor: Andre Guenin

Patent number: 3957360Abstract: A hinge portion of a spectacle frame of generally lightweight construction is provided with essentially thin and limited vision obstructing side pieces. The hinge comprises a cam bearing flat metallic component fixedly secured to the respective side end of the front piece of the frame, and a subassembly comprising a ball-shaped cam follower and a spring urging the follower against the cam, the follower and the spring being guidedly housed in an axial bore provided in an elongated metallic body secured to a metallic side piece or to a metallic core of a lightweight side piece, forming the fore and hinge portion of the side piece and a part of an unitary metallic external structure therefor.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1974Date of Patent: May 18, 1976Inventor: Luciano Villani
