  • Patent number: 6092897
Abstract: An adjustable retainer for eyeglasses that have a pair of temple bars. The retainer includes two cords of preferably the same length, one of which is attached to the right temple bar and the other of which is attached to the left temple bar. In one embodiment, the cords are attached by inserting a loop in the end of the cord partially through a hole in the end of the temple bar, and then passing the tail end of the cord through the loop and pulling the cord to tighten the loop around the temple bar. In another embodiment, two elastic cords, each having an enlargement at one end, are pulled through their respective temple bar holes so that the enlargement is held against the outer surface of the hole. In both embodiments, the tail ends of the cords are inserted through a cord holder, which is preferably a cord lock, and secured together to form a stop for the cord holder.

  • Patent number: 6062690
Abstract: An improved eyeglass retainer is disclosed, having annular closure means on the ends thereof that attach to the eyeglass frames. The annular closure means draws the material of the retainer over the attachment means of the retainer, and bunches and constricts it in front of the attachment means, so as to hide said attachment means from view. Further, by drawing over and constricting in front of the attachment means, the closure means maintains a close fit of the retainer material with the eyeglass frames, even in the presence of winds and inertial forces. An alternate embodiment involving a wider elastic annular closure means is also disclosed, which conforms to the narrower profile in front of the attachment means, rather than bunching material in front of it.

  • Patent number: 5319397
Abstract: Eyeglasses worn in winter weather conditions are subject to fogging due to condensation of water vapor. A method of removing condensation from eyeglasses is provided. The method involves heating the lenses of the eyeglasses, by making the lenses a part of an electrical circuit. Electric current is supplied to the electric circuit from a power source external to the eyeglasses. The size and weight of the power source may be minimized by utilizing a timer or a power regulator. A smaller power source is also made possible by selectively heating the lenses, applying more power in the area of the lenses most likely to experience fogging.

  • Patent number: 5299682
Abstract: This invention combines the functions of an eyeglass protection and storage device with the functions of an eyeglass securing device for when the eyeglasses are being worn. After the eyeglasses are removed from the protection and storage enclosure of this invention, the device can be transformed into a strap and used to secure the eyeglasses around the head of the wearer. Since such a dual-use protection and storage device can be worn along with the glasses, this invention also serves to eliminate the need to carry separately a single-use protection and storage device while the eyeglasses are being worn.

Abstract: Improved eyewear having a single lens (22) supported by a frame (20) which has temples (26) attached to either side by hinges (24). A wrap-around configuration of the frame and lens essentially hides a single circumferential frame to face water impermeable seal assembly (32) comprising a foam rubber layer (34) overlying a deflatable bladder (36). The inner side of the seal is contoured to fit against the human face and the outer side of the seal is contoured to fit within the frame and lens. Extending from the temples are adjustable retaining means (41) comprising two elongated tubular members (40) with open ends formed of a flexible resilient material, being adjusted by a releasable friction catch (44) to prevent the catch from becoming separated from the tubular members. Tubing (38) connects the bladder (36) and interior portions of the glasses to air removal means which can take the form of a mouthpiece (52) or pump (78) placed at the end of the retaining means or attached to the temple ends ( 30).

  • Patent number: RE34836
Abstract: An eyewear retainer of fabric-covered elastic foam material or molded soft elastic and flexible plastic or rubber-like material, for holding eyeglasses and the like securely in place on wearer's head and providing padding for the bow portions of the eyeglasses. A pair of tubular portions fit over downwardly curved rear ends of the bows of a pair of glasses, and downwardly depending hook portions, attached to the tubular portions, fit behind a wearer's ears to retain the eyewear in place. Bending of the tubular portions causes bulging, acting as cushioning for the bows. End pieces of a strap may be attached removably to the tubular portions. The strap may be in two portions interconnected separably by mating pieces of hook-and-loop fastening material or a buckle to provide for adjustability and easy removal of glasses. A rear end portion of each tubular portion may define a number of rearwardly inclined interior circumferential ridges and grooves to provide a secure grip on the bows of a pair of glasses.
