  • Patent number: 7832868
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for determining the position of a tape-like medium are proposed. The method provides for counting pulses which are supplied to the arrangement for determining the position to be counted, blocked or cancelled depending on the respective transport state. To this end, it is established whether the transport direction has been constant for a defined amount of time or over a defined distance. The transport direction determines whether the counter is incremented or decremented. In addition, counting pulses which rapidly follow one another are blocked in order to avoid undesirable double triggering. In order to avoid losing blocked counting pulses in an undesirable manner, the latter are stored and are applied to the counter, or discarded, depending on the transport state before and after blocking.

Abstract: An apparatus (1) for projecting images in sequence comprises a light source arranged in such a way as to direct a light beam in a direction of projection, a plurality of filters (4) with impressed shapes, able to project images corresponding to said shapes when traversed by the light beam, a conveyor element (5) defining a closed line, movable in continuous cycle, the filters (4) being associated to the conveyor element in such a way as to intercept the light beam to generate an animated effect in the projection; the conveyor (5) defines a line having at least one rectilinear segment arranged in such a way that the filters (4) intercept the light beam moving along a straight line perpendicular to the light beam. The projections can be of planar geometric shapes applicable to any lighting apparatus. In projection apparatuses currently in use, the animated effects obtained by moving filters have poor effectiveness, because the filters are constrained to move with circular trajectory.

  • Patent number: 5074657
Abstract: A method and mechanism for adjusting the timing of a camera in the reverse mode while allowing for separate adjustment of the timing in the forward mode. In a preferred embodiment, an external switch is provided which when actuated switches the camera between the timing setting for the forward direction and the timing setting for the reverse direction. A helical driven gear which engages a drive gear driven by the motor is axially translatable between a first position corresponding to the forward direction and a second position corresponding to the reverse direction. Since it is a helical gear, the amount of axial translation adjusts the relative angular position of the shutter with respect to the frame advance mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4150886
Abstract: A projector for motion picture film includes a servo motor which is controlled to advance film frame by frame to a projection station. A capstan on each side of the projection station is controlled to maintain film loops of substantially constant size and an associated reel motor delivers film to and takes film from each capstan. Each associated capstan and reel motor are controlled so as to maintain substantially constant tension on the film. A film guide defines the projection station and also includes provision for masking peripheral areas of each frame. Each capstan and an associated pinch roller are designed so as to eliminate creeping of film from between the two. A circuit for controlling the reel motors is arranged to permit fast winding of film directly from one reel to the other with an automatic braking feature.

  • Patent number: 4141629
Abstract: A recording projector for sound motion-picture film is used to do dubbing or rerecording work. The operator presses a store button to store the frame count of the frame being projected, and in this way stores all the frame counts for the starts and ends of several scenes, after which dubbing work is done on the thusly defined scenes. The current frame count of the film is indicated using an electronic multi-digit display unit having a row of controllable digit zones each of the 7-segment type and having controllable decimal point places. The multi-digit display unit is mounted upside-down, so that the decimal-point places are near the tops of the digit zones. The frame count is displayed on the digit zones with conventional appearance. The number of decimal-point places made visible at any given time indicates the number of the scene involved, both during initial frame-count storing work and during post-storing work on the scenes.

  • Patent number: 4022525
Abstract: A motion picture projector having an improved electric transport system for incrementally advancing film through a light gate. A constant, but adjustable, velocity rotating shutter periodically interrupts the projected picture to permit advancing the film through the light gate to the next frame. As the shutter moves to a position blocking the projected picture, a shutter position detector generates a signal for triggering a control circuit which drives an electric servomotor to rotate a film drive sprocket. The servomotor is driven to rotate the sprocket to advance the film one frame and then to hold the sprocket in a fixed position to prevent any motion of the film while the picture is projected. Power is applied from a non-linear control circuit to the servomotor. Error signals applied to the servomotor are of a peak magnitude when the servomotor is stopped with the film framed in the light gate so that small position errors drive the servomotor to the desired position with a maximum torque.

  • Patent number: 3993404
Abstract: There is disclosed a motion picture projector with self-threading mechanism with which has been combined automatic electric clutch and brake means for forward and reverse operations to permit the projector to be used in a search mode, an automatic film tension control means, an automatic lower-loop setter, a switch for stopping the projector upon loss of the upper loop, a frame counter and a pre-threaded projection magazine which fits over the reel arms and threads in the same manner as the conventional reels. The projector has in the front panel of its enclosure a slot into which is insertable a length of film extending between the two reels of the projector. After dropping a length of film into the slot the lever is pivoted from its leading position into its threading position. While being so pivoted, the lever sequentially causes locking of the film to the take-up sprocket, then to the supply sprocket, then forming the lower loop, then the upper loop, and finally pressing the film into the film channel.

  • Patent number: 3966313
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a forward-reverse film transport synchronizing mechanism for a motion picture projector film feed apparatus of the type including a shuttle which is driven for vertical reciprocating motion by a transport cam. The mechanism of the present invention includes a rotary shutter which is driven by a rotating shaft and includes a pair of drive lugs arcuately spaced by 180.degree. and axially spaced from one another. A transport cam drive means coupled to the transport cam and including a driven lug which is selectably engageable with one or the other drive lugs causes the transport cam to rotate when the rotating shaft rotates. Because the driven lug is selectably engageable with either of the drive lugs, the angular relation of the transport cam relative to the rotary shutter may be varied by 180.degree. thus providing properly synchronized forward and reverse film transportation without requiring reversal of the angular direction of rotation of the rotating shaft.
