Publication number: 20120120372Abstract: The invention provides a system and method that reduces the tediousness of the manual alignment process. Users select correspondences between projectors or components of a projector, to form a common coordinate. Using models of the display system, and projectors, the common coordinate system can be mapped quickly to the entire display. The process avoids a need to measure screen points, and allows the user to move significantly fewer points. Alternatively, the invention allows introduction of machine-vision style algorithms into manual calibration techniques to improve performance. This overcomes the tediousness of prior systems by introducing models of the display into the manual alignment process, allowing selection of a small number of points on each projector, and avoiding selection of precisely measured screen points. The system conversely finds correspondences between projectors, allowing mapping of the projectors into a common coordinate system, and quick warping of the coordinate system to the screen.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 15, 2011Publication date: May 17, 2012Applicant: Scalable Display Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Samson J. Patent number: 8142029Abstract: A projector displays an image on a projection surface. The projector has a zoom adjusting module and a keystone correcting module. The zoom adjusting module adjusts zoom level of a zoom lens for enlarged projection of image light. The keystone correcting module corrects trapezoidal distortion of the image displayed on the projection surface by means of forming the effective panel image in a revised image formation area, the revised image formation area being part of the image formation area of the panel surface.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2010Date of Patent: March 27, 2012Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Morio Matsumoto, Shiki Furui, Masaru Kono

Publication number: 20120068951Abstract: In a system and method of image display, an image projector is positioned to back project (or rear project) an image on one or more platform doors disposed between a passenger platform of a train or people mover station and a pathway of the train or people mover. The image projector is positioned on the pathway side of the one or more platform doors. The image projector back projects the image on the one or more platform doors such that the image is diffusedly transmitted through them for observation by passengers on the platform side of the station. The back projected image is oriented such that characters or words in the image have a proper left-to-right, or right-to-left, orientation for reading by passengers on the platform side of the station.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 16, 2011Publication date: March 22, 2012Applicant: Bombardier Transportation GmbHInventor: Sathya Vagheeswar Venkatasubramanian

Patent number: 8136949Abstract: A method for creating an interactive display in which users/players can form the projection screen. The method includes providing granular display material, such as a layer of sand in a container, and storing a guide image and a display image in memory of a control system. Then, a projector is first operated to project the guide image on an upper surface of the display material. After a sculpting period or in response to a user or operator provided trigger, the method includes second operating the projector to project the display image on the upper surface which has been sculpted by the user into a 3D projection surface or screen during the first operating step. The projected guide image may include an outline of an object, and the display image may include an image element that is mapped to the location of the outlined object.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2009Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: Disney Enterprises, Inc.Inventor: Thomas Fraiser Laduke

Publication number: 20120062856Abstract: A method corrects trapezoid distortion of projected images using a projector. The projector includes a projection lens, a driver device, an image capturing device, and a storage system. A rectangular picture is read from the storage system and projected on a projection area by the projection lens. The method controls the image capturing device to capture an image from the projection area when the projection lens increases one trapezoid row correction grade, and corrects each trapezoid row of the captured image if the captured image has trapezoid rows. The method further controls the image capturing device to capture an image from the projection area when the projection lens increases one trapezoid column correction grade, and corrects each trapezoid column of the captured image if the captured image has trapezoid columns.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 21, 2011Publication date: March 15, 2012Applicants: HON HAI PRECISION INDUSTRY CO., LTD, HONG FU JIN PRECISION INDUSTRY (ShenZhen) CO., LTD.Inventor: GUANG-JIAN WANG

Publication number: 20120062846Abstract: An optical system that projects a real image to a location in free space and includes one or more features located along the optical path that enhance the viewability of the real image. The optical system includes a converging element for converging a portion of source light so as to form the real image. One viewability-enhancing features is the use of a broadband reflector-polarizer having high transmitting and reflecting efficiencies. Another viewability-enhancing features is the use of polarizing elements having substantially matched bandwidth responses and/or comprising an achromatic design. An additional viewability-enhancing feature is the use of a wide-view film to increase the viewing angle of the image.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 21, 2011Publication date: March 15, 2012Applicant: PC MIRAGE, LLCInventor: Bruce D. Publication number: 20120062851Abstract: The image display system comprises laser light source units (2 to 4) for emitting green, red and blue laser beams, a laser output control unit (52) and a drive control unit (53). Upon detecting an overlapping in the output timing of the laser beams of two or more of the laser light source units, the drive control unit ceases the application of the drive current to at least one of the two or more laser light source units according to the output control signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 2, 2011Publication date: March 15, 2012Applicant: PANASONIC CORPORATIONInventors: Tsuyoshi YOSHIMOTO, Takahisa SHIRAMIZU
