Patent number: 9778546Abstract: A projector that projects a visible image as well as a non-visible image. The non-visible image might be used for any purpose, but an example is in order to provide depth information regarding physical item(s) interacting with the projected visible image. The projector includes multiple projecting units (e.g., one for each pixel to be displayed), each including light-emitting elements configured to emit light in the visible spectrum. Some or all of those projecting units might also include an emitting element for emitting light in the non-visible spectrum so as to collectively emit a non-visible image. Optics may be positioned to project the visible image and the non-visible image. A depth sensing module detects depth of surfaces within the scope of the non-visible image using a reflected portion of the non-visible image.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2013Date of Patent: October 3, 2017Assignee: MEP TECH, INC.Inventors: Donald Roy Mealing, Mark L. Patent number: 9781396Abstract: A projector includes a projection section that projects a plurality of patterns having lightness values different from each other, an imaging section that captures an image of the plurality of patterns projected by the projection section, and a projection state adjustment section that adjusts, based on any of the plurality of patterns captured by the imaging section, a projection state in which the projection section performs projection.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2014Date of Patent: October 3, 2017Assignee: SEIKO EPSON CORPORATIONInventor: Shiki Furui

Patent number: 9753361Abstract: A transparent display device includes a screen that has a plurality of light deflecting elements that are separated by transparent areas, and a projector device. The projector device is configured to direct light onto the light deflecting elements and not onto the transparent areas. The display device may include a first screen and a second screen separated longitudinally relative to the projector, wherein each screen respectively has a plurality of light deflecting elements. The projector is configured to direct light onto the light deflecting elements and not onto the transparent areas of the two screens such that light from the first and second light deflecting elements appear in different virtual depth planes. Alternatively, a single screen may have first and second pluralities of light deflecting elements of different optical powers, such that light from the first and second light deflecting elements appear in different virtual depth planes.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2014Date of Patent: September 5, 2017Assignee: Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventor: David James Montgomery

Patent number: 9727173Abstract: According to an illustrative embodiment, an information processing apparatus is provided. The apparatus is used for processing a first image projected toward a target. The apparatus includes a processing unit for detecting that an object exists between a projector unit and the target, wherein when an object exists between the projector unit and the target, the apparatus determines an area of the object and generates a modified first image, based on the area of the object, for projection toward the target.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2015Date of Patent: August 8, 2017Assignee: Sony CorporationInventors: Hiroyuki Mizunuma, Ikuo Yamano, Shunichi Kasahara, Ken Miyashita, Kazuyuki Yamamoto
