The light emitting material may be configured to emit visible light in response to absorption of ultraviolet light. The light emitting material may include a plurality of light emitting particles and each of the plurality of light emitting particles has a diameter less than about 500 nanometers. For example, emitting visible light from a substantially dark substrate may allow for images to be displayed with relatively high contrast. These high contrast images may appear clearer to a viewer and may result in less eye strain by a viewer.

Abstract: An optical system (light guiding optical system) for guiding G-light and R-light to liquid crystal panels is protruded in an opposite direction from projection optical system with regard to an optical axis of a light source. A space is created between an optical engine and a wall surface, and air stream for suction fan is thus secured. A distance (H1) between the optical engine and the wall surface can be reduced to, for example, a thickness of an external housing of the projector. Since a unit comprising the light source and a suction fan is retracted in a direction of the projection optical system than a protruded portion of the light guiding optical system, a distance (H2) from an end edge of the optical engine to a projection light emitting position can be reduced.

The projection screen has a plurality of sub-pixels that reflect and/or transmit the one or more ranges of wavelengths to display the image and absorb visible wavelengths of light in at least one other range not included in the one or more ranges. One or more spaces are defined between adjacent sub-pixels that reflect and/or transmit the one or more ranges and the at least one other range.

Abstract: The projection system includes a plurality of projection apparatus including a frame. The frames of adjacent projection apparatus are interconnected by at least one bracket connected to vertical members of the adjacent projection apparatus. Adjacent projection apparatus define a viewing area defined by the upper members of the frames of the projection apparatus, the lower members of the frames of the projection apparatus and the outer frame edges of each of the adjacent projection apparatus. A viewing screen is disposed over this viewing area.

  • Patent number: 7213923
Abstract: In accordance with embodiments, viewable images can be created in glass. Viewable images may be created in glass by using a projector which projects ultraviolet light to excite light emitting material. Clear images may be created in glass because the size the light emitting particles in the glass is less than 400 nanometers. In embodiments, the visible illumination of a transparent substrate to display an image is possible, while the transparent substrate remains transparent. Accordingly, for example, drivers of automobiles may view images (e.g. map images) on their windshield while they are driving. As another example, window shoppers may view enhanced advertisements in the windows of stores that they are approaching.

  • Patent number: 7210792
Abstract: A micromechanical mirror combined with a photoluminescent screen is able to efficiently use light from the light source. In such a device, the light source produces light that is directed onto the micromechanical mirror. The micromechanical mirror then selectively reflects the light onto a photoluminescent screen. The light excites the photoluminescent screen to produce the desired picture. The photoluminescent screen may include sets of pixels that convert light from the light source to provide the desired picture. Typically, each pixel set includes a red, green and blue portion although any suitable combination of colors and number of pixels may be used. Each pixel set portion converts the light received from the light source into its respective color by photoluminescence. Alternatively, the photoluminescent screen may include transparent and/or scattering portions instead of photoluminescent portions of a certain color when the light source has a spectrum which is limited to one color.
