Patent number: 8331739Abstract: OCR errors are identified and corrected through learning. An error probability estimator is trained using ground truths to learn error probability estimation. Multiple OCR engines process a text image, and convert it into texts. The error probability estimator compares the outcomes of the multiple OCR engines for mismatches, and determines an error probability for each of the mismatches. If the error probability of a mismatch exceeds an error probability threshold, a suspect is generated and grouped together with similar suspects in a cluster. A question for the cluster is generated and rendered to a human operator for answering. The answer from the human operator is then applied to all suspects in the cluster to correct OCR errors in the resulting text. The answer is also used to further train the error probability estimator.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 2009Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Ahmad Abdulkader, Matthew R. The method further includes dividing the unprocessed plurality of image units into at least one second subset of the plurality of image units, and sending each of the at least one second subset of the plurality of image units to a different information processing apparatus for processing.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 24, 2010Publication date: March 29, 2012Inventors: Gregory C. Patent number: 8139245Abstract: An approach is provided for managing the processing of print data at a printing device based upon available consumable resources. A printing device includes a print process configured to determine consumable resources that are currently available at the printing device. The print process is further configured to determine which print data is to be processed based upon the consumable resources currently available at the printing device and the consumable resources required to completely process each of the print data. Print data that can be completely processed using the currently available consumable resources are selected for processing. The print process may also be configured to cause a notification to be provided to a client device to indicate the consumable resources currently available at a printing device and/or that insufficient consumable resources were available to process particular print data and to recommend other consumable resources to process the particular print data.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2006Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: Ricoh Company, Ltd.Inventor: Lifen Tian

Patent number: 8139262Abstract: A terminal 102 creates setting data 400 and inputs setting data 400 into an image output apparatus 101. The image output apparatus 101 sets the initial settings, operation settings, equipment settings, etc. based on the setting data, holds the setting data, and performs various processes based on the set settings and the held setting data. In addition, the image output apparatus 101 performs a media identification process, a media reader switching process, and the like using a media detection means 117, a media reader switching means 118, and the like, and allows only the use of the insertion opening of a predetermined media reader.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2004Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Mitsuhiro Hamashima, Jun Yoshida, Naoji Shibasaki, Yasuko Deushi, Nobuho Mori

Patent number: 8134720Abstract: A multiple font management system and method in a printing device for activating multiple fonts is provided for enabling base font localization and font patching for print jobs to reduce the need to upload entire fonts in order to provide localized receipts or to provide corrections to partially-corrupted font tables. A font access level stores locations of activated base, localization and patch fonts and are referenced in an access order during character retrieval so as to apply retrieval priority to patches and localizations. A font storage level maintains multiple tier character indices for referencing character shape data in order to provide faster character searching through each of the multiple activated fonts than a single-level index.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2009Date of Patent: March 13, 2012Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Leonard B. Patent number: 8107118Abstract: Upon printing on a tab, a printer driver presents a screen for setting index information of a tab sheet, and receives designation of a position where an index is to be added and an item to be added to the index. Further, it receives designation of the number of letters, letter size, or the number of lines as a threshold value for determining whether the title information input to be printed on the tab should be converted into an index or not. When the input title information exceeds the threshold value, the printer driver controls such that one or more alphanumeric characters are printed on a tab, instead of the title information, and such that the input title information is printed on an index sheet together with the alphanumeric character(s) of the corresponding tab sheet.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 2006Date of Patent: January 31, 2012Assignee: Konica Minolta Business Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Tatsuo Edamatsu
