  • Patent number: 6239880
Abstract: A method for processing a job, including image data and a set of attributes, in a document processing system is provided. Each attribute is corresponded with either a default value or a user set value. The document processing system further includes a user interface at which a set of default values are settable, in response to user input, to create a set of user set values, and a memory for storing at least a part of the image data of the job wherein the at least part of the image data of the job is less than all of the image data of the job. The method includes: (a) storing the at least part of the image data in the memory; (b) in response to user input, respectively changing one or more values of the set of user set values to one or more values of the set of default values; and (c) in response to the changing in (b), deleting the at least part of the image data in the memory when a selected condition is met.

  • Patent number: 6236755
Abstract: A method and apparatus for outputting an image in which the image is divided into plural parts which are serially processed. Each part in turn is compressed in accordance with a first compression method, the same part is selectably recompressed by a second compression method in accordance with the compression results, the method by which the part was compressed is stored, the compressed part is expanded into a memory area that is common for all parts of the image in accordance with the stored compression method, and the expanded image is output.

  • Patent number: 6236463
Abstract: A system and method are provided which have the ability to print whole documents at a time, rather than page by page. The data for an entire multi-page document is fed directly to an output device, and then a print engine. The data stream includes a record layout including data field codes which tell the data system and/or raster image processor where to print strings of variable information in a document so that the strings only need be provided once even if printed in multiple places within the document. Data flows in the data stream to the print engine as the raster image processor functions in real time. The system has the capability to manipulate and transfer data at 10 Mbytes per second, which translate into a transfer rate of approximately 92,000 characters per second at up to 1,000 feet per minute print speeds, for up to six controllers.

  • Patent number: 6230063
Abstract: A technique for collectively setting a factory mode of operation of a monitor offers adjustments or modifications for particulars of mode data to meet user requirements, by transmitting a set of factory mode timing data from an external controller to an electrically erasable programmable read only memory using a serial interface data communication. A factory mode data transmission process includes the steps of transmitting a start data signal to a microcomputer in a monitor when a storage key input is fed to the external controller, repeatedly sending the timing data until a mode end signal is input and sending a mode end data to the microcomputer when a mode end signal is input. In addition, a factory mode data receiving process includes the steps of sending back the start data received to the external controller, storing mode timing data received into a factory mode address reserved in a memory in the monitor and ending the reception of mode timing data when mode end data is inputted.

  • Patent number: 6226099
Abstract: A printing apparatus includes a storing unit for executing a storing operation to store one page of intermediate data in a first memory. A determination unit determines, during the storing operation by the storing unit, whether the one page of intermediate data can be stored in the first memory. A control unit controls a data compression and storing operation such that if the determination unit determines that the one page of intermediate data cannot be stored in the first memory, (i) a portion of the one page of intermediate data that has already been stored in the first memory is compressed and stored in a second memory so as to expand a free space of the first memory, and (ii) a subsequent portion of the one page of intermediate data is compressed and stored in the second memory.

  • Patent number: 6208429
Abstract: Method and system aspects for increasing print performance for rotated digital images are described. A method aspect, and system for providing same, includes analyzing a selected image print layout to determine at least a number and size of rotated images in the selected image print layout. Further included is allocating available rotate buffer space to the rotated images based on at least the number and size of the rotated images, and executing band printing of the selected print layout.

  • Patent number: 6191866
Abstract: A laser printer and printing method for obtaining high quality of a picture by using different DPIs between a printer engine and data for printing, which includes a PC interface unit for receiving rasterized data from a PC connected to a printer; a band memory for storing the data transmitted from the PC interface unit; a main controller for reading and transmitting the data stored in the band memory; a clock generating unit for generating a clock for transmitting the data; a line buffer memory for temporarily storing the read data; and a line buffer control unit for controlling the line buffer. A printing method includes receiving data from the PC and storing the data in a band memory, comparing the DPI of data with that of the printer engine, and transmitting the data at least once to the printer engine for the time corresponding to the predetermined number of the clock.

  • Patent number: 6181432
Abstract: When a host transfers only an image to a printing apparatus to make it print out the image, a heavy load is imposed on the host, and the data size to be transferred is large, resulting in a long processing time. To prevent this, when a document is to be printed, the driver on a host sends character codes of characters that occur for the first time in that document and corresponding character images to the printer in advance, and registers them. After this process, the driver transmits, to the printer, characters as character codes, ruled lines as coordinate data representing their corner points, and data other than characters and ruled lines as mapped images. The printer maps an image on a page memory, maps characters as images with reference to the registered character codes and images, and superposes the mapped character images on the image mapped on the page memory. Also, the printer maps ruled lines based on their vertex positions, and synthesizes them on the already mapped image.
