  • Patent number: 5359429
Abstract: A facsimile machine having a memory reception mode in which image data received from a transmitting facsimile machine during an automatic reception is temporarily stored in a memory, and is provided with a detecting part for detecting a remaining memory region which is usable within the memory. The invention includes a line density switching part for instructing switching of the line density if the remaining memory region detected by the detecting part is less than or equal to a predetermined region, and a control part for making a capability notification to the transmitting facsimile machine in a pre-procedure during the automatic reception. The control part automatically transmits the capability notification again to the transmitting facsimile machine in response to the instruction from the line density switching part so as to receive the image data from the transmitting facsimile machine with a line density which is lower than an initial line density at the time when the automatic reception is started.

  • Patent number: 5274842
Abstract: In a trunked communication system that has the capabilities of receiving facsimile transmissions from a communication unit, a method to more efficiently utilize communication resources can be achieved by the following. Once a communication resource allocator has allocated a communication resource to a communication unit for a predetermined period of time, that communication unit transmits at least a portion of a multiple transaction data, which may be a facsimile, to the communication resource allocator. Once the communication resource allocator accurately receives the at least a portion of the multiple transaction data, it transmits an acknowledgement signal to the communication unit. From the acknowledgement signal, the communication unit determines the signal strength of the transmission and also the transmission duration.

  • Patent number: 5216519
Abstract: A transmission arrangement is disclosed which facilitates compression of modem modulated facsimile signals for transmission on digital facilities. The presence of a facsimile call is detected and facsimile control messages are obtained by demodulating and interpreting the facsimile call control protocol. A controller is responsive to the obtained control messages for controlling a voiceband encoder to encode the control portion of the facsimile call and for controlling a so-called facsimile page demodulator to demodulate any facsimile page portions of the facsimile call to obtain a baseband digital bit stream. The presence of prescribed tone signals, i.e., echo protection tone (EPT) signals, is detected in the facsimile call. EPT control messages representative of the EPT signals are generated. The encoded control portion of the facsimile call and the baseband digital bit stream representative of the demodulated, i.e.

  • Patent number: 5067027
Abstract: An image data transmission method in which a transmitter having a document reading system sends image data to a receiver having an image recording system, controls image data transmission as follows. The receiver lets the transmitter know an image recording characteristic of the image recording system provided in the receiver to the transmitter when the receiver is called. The transmitter adjusts a document reading characteristic of the document reading system so as to match the image recording characteristic of the image recording system provided in the receiver. The document is read by the document reading system provided in the transmitter according to the document reading characteristic. Image data obtained by reading the document is sent to the receiver. The image recording system records an image formed by the image data supplied from the transmitter according to the image recording characteristic.

  • Patent number: 4999716
Abstract: In a facsimile communication method, a receiving facsimile machine receives a training check field signal TCF from a transmitting facsimile machine and sends a confirmation to receive signal CFR or a failure to train signal FTT to the transmitting facsimile machine depending on a result of the reception of the training check field signal TCF so as to determine a modem transmission speed. A number of erroneous bits in the training check field signal TCF which is sent from the transmitting facsimile machine at an initial modem transmission speed and received by the receiving facsimile machine is detected, and the modem transmission speed is set based on the detected number of erroneous bits. A facsimile information bit which indicates the set modem transmission speed is added to the failure to train signal FTT which is sent from the receiving facsimile machine to the transmitting facsimile machine.
