  • Patent number: 5940543
Abstract: When images on the front and rear sides of multiple originals are reduced in size and recorded onto both sides of a single recording sheet in composite form, recording positions of images on the front and rear sides of each original are determined such that reduced images on the front side of the original are recorded on the front side of the recording sheet and reduced images on the rear side of the same original are recorded at corresponding positions on the rear side of the recording sheet. As a result, when the recording sheet is cut into pieces corresponding to respective recorded images, images on the front and rear sides of each cut piece of the recording sheet respectively agree with images on the front and rear sides of each original.

  • Patent number: 5867611
Abstract: In a digital copier which allow the quality of an output image to be adjusted in a plurality of levels, a scanner reads a document image and generates corresponding image data. An analog-to-digital converter transforms the image data to a pixel-by-pixel electric signal. The electric signal is written to an image memory. An image processing section reads a particular portion of the image (e.g. one-fifth in the subscanning direction) out of the memory repeatedly, while changing density each time. The results of such processing are sent to a recording section and printed on a single paper as a combined image. As a result, partial images representative of a particular density each are printed on a single paper. This not only promotes easy evaluation but also saves papers.

  • Patent number: 5732230
Abstract: A system for manipulating image fragments so that image processing devices such as copiers, fax machines and scanners may efficiently process oversize images. The system provides a user interface so that when an oversize image is scanned in multiple parts to produce multiple image fragments the user can manipulate the image fragments by performing drag, drop and merge operations on the image fragments. Embodiments of the invention include the use of a touch screen or mouse to allow the user to perform the operations. Other operations are selectable such as rotating an image fragment, zooming in or out on portions of the displayed fragments, merging the fragments into an integrated image and storing or printing the image fragments.

  • Patent number: 5732161
Abstract: An image synthesizing apparatus includes a reading unit which reads an image of an original, and an input unit which inputs print data from an external apparatus. A first setting unit sets a synthesis mode for synthesizing image data output from the reading unit and the print data input from the input unit for recordation, and a second setting unit sets a number of pages of different print data to be synthesized in the synthesis mode. A control unit is adapted, when the synthesis mode is set by the first setting unit, to maintain the synthesis mode until the different print data of the number of pages set by the second setting unit is input by the input unit, and to cancel the synthesis mode after the different print data of the set number of pages has been input.

  • Patent number: 5724491
Abstract: A prepress command sheet capable of prepress efficiently without errors. Magnetic disk 54 are stored electronic data for corresponding image components, corresponding text components, and corresponding linework components. The Disk 54 are also stored electronic data for layout papers for the prepress command sheets. A CPU 42 lays out the corresponding image components, corresponding text components, and corresponding linework components on the layout paper according to instruction by an operator. CPU 42 reads identifiers for the respective image components and lays them out in the vicinity of associated corresponding image components. Printer 47 records the corresponding image components, corresponding text components, corresponding linework components, and identifiers associated with respective image components on the layout paper, and outputs the prepress command sheet.

  • Patent number: 5724490
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a scanner for reading image information of an original, a memory for storing the image information of a plurality of originals read by the scanner, a printer for forming the image information of at least two of the originals stored in the memory on a single image formation medium, a detector for detecting that the memory becomes full, and a controller. When the detector detects that the memory becomes full while the scanner is performing a series of read operations, the controller controls the printer to print images of the image information of originals which are stored in the memory and images of which are to be formed on a single sheet, erases the image information whose images are printed, and controls the scanner to restart reading of the originals.

  • Patent number: 5708513
Abstract: A large-size (A3-size) original is folded into two small-size (A4-size) portions. Images on the surfaces of the respective portions are read by image reading units. Image data output from the image reading units are stored in a memory. A detection unit detects end positions of the read images, and skew of each of the images is corrected. An image synthesis unit synthesizes the image data of the respective surfaces based on the output of the detection unit to provide the original single image. Thus, it is possible to read even a large-size original.
