Abstract: Historically, the creation of digital line screens was considered to be a subset of the creation of the digital cluster dot screens. The geometric constraints necessary for digital cluster dot screens were imported into the creation of digital line screens. Accordingly, the number of available angles or digital line screens was also significantly limited. In various exemplary embodiments of the systems and methods according to this invention, a digital line screen cell is defined such that the vectors defining the digital line screen cell are not necessarily isometric and are not necessarily at right angles to each other. By using a high-addressability grid that has different resolutions along x and y axis of the grid, the systems and methods according to this invention allow the components of the vectors along the high-addressability direction to be noninteger multiples of the components of the vectors along the other direction of the grid.

  • Patent number: 7265873
Abstract: An image processing system that performs edge-enhancement on an image. The image processing system processes a region of the image at a given time. One specific pixel of an image region is compared to several surrounding pixels to determine the existence of a black edge or a white edge in the image. Additionally, the image processing system includes a classifier that determines whether the image is substantially text-like or substantially photo-like. When the image is substantially text-like, a dynamic black threshold is used to determine the existence of a black edge within the image. The dynamic black threshold is modified during the processing of the image by the image processing system as a function of the relationship between the one specific pixel to at least one other of the several surrounding pixels. The image processing system selectively applies a first threshold scheme or a second threshold scheme upon identification to the image depending on the characteristics of the one specific pixel.

  • Patent number: 7145693
Abstract: In ink-jet printing apparatuses having a monochrome head which is longer than a color head, if a monochrome image is processed as a color image, the printing speed cannot be improved. Accordingly, the color attribute is determined by pixel based on a luminance signal indicating a color multivalue image, and the number of color attributes and the number of array attributes in a first line group are counted. Based on these count values, a parameter indicating an image characteristic of second line group including the first line group is calculated. The image attribute of the second line group is determined in correspondence with the respective count values and the parameter. Then, based on the results of determination about adjacent second line groups, the image attribute of third line group included in the second line groups is determined. Thus attribute determination can be appropriately performed in predetermined band units of image data.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for identifying objects in a digital image include a thresholding unit and a threshold calculation unit. The thresholding unit is designed to receive the digital image and compare the luminance values of the digital image with threshold values of a threshold matrix in order to create a binary image on the basis of the comparison. The threshold calculation unit is designed to estimate, on the basis of a first and second division of a reference image which corresponds to the digital image into first and second subareas, a background luminance value for each first subarea and an object luminance value for each second subarea. The apparatuses and the methods permit quick and memory-efficient identification of the individual objects, even if the digital image contains variation in the luminance and/or sharpness.

In one or more embodiments, the sampling method may comprise a sample treatment procedure for the data of an image scanning device during the scanning of an image. The method may comprise sampling, sorting, eliminating one or more group-departing values, and getting a mean value, etc. The sampling procedure may involve scanning a single point of the image several times to produce several sets of sampling values. The sorting procedure may involve sorting the several sets of sampling values after being sampled according to their magnitude. The eliminating group-departing values procedure may involve obtaining the relatively larger values and relatively smaller values from the several sets of sampling values after being sorted. The getting mean value procedure may involve obtaining a mean value from the several sets of sampling values.

Abstract: There is disclosed an image processing apparatus in which a pattern table stores a plurality of screen patterns which include a predetermined number of pattern data and have different data patterns. An in-pattern position calculator generates an in-pattern position signal indicating a position of an input image signal in the screen pattern from main and sub scanning synchronizing signals. A pattern selecting signal combining section generates a pattern selecting signal for selecting a specified pattern in the pattern table from the input image signal, combines the pattern selecting signal and the in-pattern position signal supplied from the in-pattern position calculator, and supplies an address in the pattern table. A controller reads pattern data corresponding to the address in the pattern table from the pattern table and supplies image data.
