  • Patent number: 7042596
Abstract: Disclosed is method of identifying a device that has been connected to a multifunction apparatus to which any device of a plurality of types can be selectively attached, wherein the method makes it possible to prevent malfunction if a device is attached or connected unsatisfactorily. A timing signal for acquiring information that identifies a device is transmitted to the attached device, identifying information transmitted from the attached device in accordance with the timing signal is received, and it is determined, with regard to a device of a specific type, whether specific data contained in the identifying information is indicative of a predetermined value. If it has been determined that the specific data is indicative of the predetermined value, then control is exercised on the assumption that the connected device is that of the specific type.

The scanning sensor module moves to any line in a sub scanning direction and scans the line. Then, the scanning sensor module moves to a second position and re-scans the line. Since the scanning along the main scanning axis is performed at least twice, the total amount of data collected is increased, thus increasing the resolution of the image that is recorded along the main scanning axis.

  • Patent number: 5867283
Abstract: A compact and efficiently designed facsimile device that is capable of performing transmission, reception, and duplication functions. The efficiency is brought about by using only one stepping motor to drive all the functions of the facsimile apparatus. The mode selection is accomplished by separating either the thermosensitive recording head or the scanner away from the white roller when a particular mode of operation does not require their use. This is accomplished by placing eccentric cams on the same axle as said white roller and on both sides of said white roller. During duplication, both the thermosensitive recording head and the sensor are in contact with the white roller. During transmission or reception mode, the eccentric cams are rotated so that the thermosensitive recording head and the sensor respectively are pushed away from the white roller by the apogees of both cams.

Abstract: A handheld printer is movable across a target object to print while moving in a desired printing field. The printer has a position detector and a microprocessor controller for detecting the position of a printing member and activating the printing member at a plurality of successive printing locations. The printer may use thermal or inkjet printing and has user feedback and input. A mechanical position detector enables the printer to be used without a mechanical paper drive mechanism. The printer allows image rotation under control of a four-position switch and scaling of the image using distance and printline based scaling. The printer may be controlled by an external controller through a cable or a remote signal source. An alternative embodiment of the printer uses a vacuum-type arrangement to attract and hold the printer to the surface being printed. The printer may be line or battery-powered.

In the first position, the path of a single sheet of paper is impeded by the scan head mechanism. In the second position, a sheet of paper onto which an image has been transferred by dot matrix, ink, or laser printing, can move through the multipurpose information transfer device unimpeded. The invention contemplates a single stationary path to which information transfer functions are added and taken away, instead of multiple paths to accommodate stationary information transfer functions.
