Abstract: In an imaging system, a lens can redirect light from an illuminated portion of a scene toward a one-dimensional focus that is positioned in a focal plane of the lens and is elongated in an imaging dimension. The redirected light can include first light that emerges from the lens and second light that emerges from the lens. A reflector positioned adjacent the lens can reflect the second light to form third light. A linear array of detector pixels can extend along the imaging dimension and can be positioned at the focal plane proximate the one-dimensional focus to receive the first light from the lens and receive the third light from the reflector. A processor can obtain one-dimensional image data from the detector pixels for sequentially illuminated portions of the scene and construct data representing an image of the full scene from the one-dimensional image data.

Abstract: To provide an image reading apparatus for enabling an optical carriage movably supported in a rail member to be locked reliably in a predetermined position of an apparatus frame without causing failure by shock in transport, one of the apparatus frame and optical carriage is provided with a lock member traveling between a release position and a lock position, and a biasing member for biasing the lock member in a predetermined direction, and the other one is provided with an engagement receiving portion being fitted with an engagement portion formed in the lock member. Then, the engagement portion and the engagement receiving portion are configured to inhibit movements in the scanning direction of the optical carriage in the lock position, and the biasing force of the biasing member is concurrently configured to act on the carriage in the direction orthogonal to the scanning direction so as to increase friction between the carriage and a traveling rail.

Abstract: A scanning device including a body, a transparent cover, a scanning module, a flat-cable and a pressing unit is provided. The body has a space, a first inner-side and a second inner-side. The transparent cover covers on the body to hide the space. The scanning module disposed in the space is capable of moving back and forth between the first and the second inner-sides. The flat-cable is disposed in the space and connected with the scanning module and the body. The pressing unit is pivotally connected on the scanning module with a side thereof, so that another side of the pressing unit without being pivotally connected on the scanning module leans against on the flat-cable through the weight itself to suppress the flat-cable, so as to prevent the flat-cable from contacting with the transparent cover when the scanning module moves back and forth between the first and the second inner-sides.

Abstract: The invention relates to scanning linear image sensors with signal integration, in which an image of a line of points from an observed scene is reconstructed by the addition of successive images taken by a plurality of photosensitive lines which successively observe the same line of the scene as the scene moves across the sensor perpendicularly to the lines. The sensor according to the invention uses charge transfer pixels (Pm,i,j) grouped into M groups of N lines; an analog charge summation is carried out in each group; and the results of this summation are read by read circuits (READm) associated with each group, and then digitized and added to those of the other groups.

Abstract: Devices and methods are disclosed for the high speed digitization and cataloguing of large collections of objects. The objects are inserted into transparent pockets on an elongated belt, and the belt is driven rapidly past a high speed digital camera. A glare reduction means may be employed to avoid glare off the transparent pockets, and motion blur may be substantially eliminated through the use of high speed strobe illumination or a high speed shutter. The invention can be commercialized by having a customer load the belt with objects and deliver the belt to a processing location. Digital images of the objects may then be provided to the customer, and the original objects may be left in the pockets on the belt for convenient storage.
