  • Patent number: 8526079
Abstract: Devices and methods are disclosed for the high speed digitization of large collections of thin, flexible sheets such as photographic prints. The sheets are inserted into transparent pockets on an elongated belt, and the belt is driven rapidly without stopping past a high speed digital camera. A glare reduction means is employed to avoid glare off the transparent pockets, and motion blur is eliminated through the use of high speed strobe illumination or a high speed shutter. The invention can be commercialized by having a customer load the belt with photographs (or other thin sheets) and deliver the belt to a processing location. Digital images of the sheets may then be provided to the customer, and the original sheets may be left in the pockets on the belt for convenient storage.

Abstract: A control unit 6 causes a vertical scanning circuit 3 to cyclically select any one-dimensional pixel line from among pixel lines 21 to 23 each time a prescribed H period elapses, and controls a read circuit 5 and a horizontal scanning circuit 4 so as to read out pixel signals of an object which has been exposed by the selected pixel line. The control unit 6 further controls a vertical movement unit 8 in such a manner that the scanning speed S satisfies S=P/4H, where P is the arrangement pitch in the vertical direction of the pixel lines 21 to 23 and H is the H period.

  • Patent number: 8027068
Abstract: For an image-capturing unit having a light source and mirrors directing light reflected from a scanned document into a lens condensing the light onto a photoelectrically converting image sensor, a synthetic resin housing. The housing is composed of an open-ended upper frame having a top plate from which sidewalls extend, encompassing an internal space. A mounting surface for anchoring the light-source is formed on the upper side of the upper-frame top plate, and formed on the lower side of the upper-frame top plate is a pedestal on which the lens is supported. Mirror-support projections are formed on the lower side of the upper-frame top plate, or on the upper-frame sidewalls, to support the mirrors from below the lens. With this housing, the influence of heat from the light source on the optics is minimized, improving the mirrors' positional accuracy.

  • Patent number: RE43087
Abstract: An image scanner performing multiple scanning operations for a single scan line is disclosed. The additional scanning operations are performed between two adjacent pixels. For a double scanning mode, the CCD performs one scanning operation for a scan line at a first position. Then, the CCD is moved from the first position to a second position along the X-direction to perform the other scanning operation at the second position. The distance between the first and the second positions is a half of the distance between two adjacent pixels. The scanning data of the two scanning operations are alternatively arranged and converted into final image data. By this way, a low-pixel-density CCD can be used to obtain a high-pixel-density scanning quality.
