Patent number: 8670166Abstract: A method of automatic white balance adjustment for a scanner is described hereinafter. First, a light source provides a white light to make the scanner scan a document and get an initial image of the document. Secondly, red, green and blue chromatic values of a background color are obtained in the initial image. Next, a factor is calculated based on the chromatic values and a calibration value which is stored in a calibration sheet. Lastly, the scanner automatically adjusts a brightness ratio of the red, green and blue lights of the light source according to the factor, and then rescans the document to get a final image which has a processed background color. Therefore, the final image having the background color close to white is in favor of identification. Furthermore, the adjustment is executed in the process of the scanner rescanning the document so that the step of executing adjustment by software can be eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2012Date of Patent: March 11, 2014Assignee: Foxlink Image Technology Co., Ltd.Inventors: Chang-Hsien Sung, Chien-Shen Chien

The translator further transforms the hyperspectral traces into one or more device-independent representations of color.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2004Date of Patent: September 1, 2009Inventor: Larry Kleiman

Patent number: 7548353Abstract: This invention provides an image reading apparatus including a light source unit which has a plurality of light sources in the same direction as the main scanning direction of an original and irradiates the original to read the original, a reader which reads the original on the basis of irradiation by the light source section and outputs reading information, an original region identificator which identifies an original existing region where the original exists, and a lighting control unit which executes lighting control of the light sources corresponding to the original region identified by the original region identificator. An image reading method using the image reading apparatus is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2004Date of Patent: June 16, 2009Assignee: Konica Minolta Business Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Masaki Kakutani

Patent number: 7548355Abstract: A scheme for obtaining an original image free from any dust or scratches on a film by scanning a film original or the like with visible light and infrared light has been proposed. This scheme suffers problems, i.e., a large memory size and long processing time since original image data obtained by infrared light must be stored. To solve such conventional problems, this invention provides, e.g., an image scanning apparatus which has a light source for emitting visible light and invisible light, scanning means for scanning an original image irradiated with light emitted by the light source, and control means for controlling the scanning means to scan the original image irradiated with the invisible light, and then to scan the original image irradiated with the visible light.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2005Date of Patent: June 16, 2009Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Masatoshi Nagano

Patent number: 7525700Abstract: A scanning method, applicable for a flatbed scanner with transparent scanning function. A plane light source with a distribution range covering the region to be scanned of a transparent document is provided. The distribution range of the plane light source is read by preview scanning, such that the position of the transparent document is captured.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2003Date of Patent: April 28, 2009Inventor: Jen-Shou Tseng

Patent number: 7518766Abstract: A calibration mechanism of a scanner includes a second light source, a calibration element having an opening, a first light source and a scanning module. The second light source is assembled with the calibration element, and the first light source is disposed at a position opposite to the calibration element. During the shading correction, the calibration element is rotated by an angle so that the first light source illuminates on a surface of the calibration element, and the reflected light enters the scanning module. When a transmissive original is being scanned, the light of the second light source passes through the opening of the calibration element and the transmissive original, and then enters the scanning module.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2006Date of Patent: April 14, 2009Assignee: Avision Inc.Inventor: Thomas Sheng
