Patent number: 6100960Abstract: A film scanner is capable of reading an image formed on a film in accordance with a photographing mode recorded in each frame of the film. In this film scanner, an image formed in each frame of a film held by a film holder is projected onto a linear image sensor by a focusing optical system to read the image with the linear image sensor. A magnetic information detection unit detects magnetic information recorded in each frame of the film, and a system controller identifies a photographing mode of each frame of the film. In accordance with the identified photographing mode, an image read area of each frame is set and a subscanning motor is driven in accordance with this image read area. The subscanning motor is driven in the area outside of the image read area at a faster speed than in the image read area. Therefore, a read time can be shortened as compared to the case wherein all frames are read in the broadest image read area. Trimming works can be omitted.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1997Date of Patent: August 8, 2000Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hidekage Sato, Takashi Amikura

Patent number: 6016354Abstract: A red-eye reduction system is described that includes a masking module. The masking module converts an image into a mask having first state areas representing red color pixels of the image and second state areas representing other color pixels of the image. The image includes an eye with a red pupil. A pupil locating module is coupled to the masking module to locate a substantially first state area in the mask that resembles a pupil. A color replacing module is then coupled to the pupil locating module to change the red color pixels in the area into monochrome (grey) or other predefined colors. The color replacing module also adjusts the boundary of the area by changing the colors of pixels in close proximity to the area if the color of these pixels is determined to be sufficiently close to red such that natural appearance of the eye is maintained when reducing the red pupil. A method of reducing red-eye effect in a digital image is also described.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1997Date of Patent: January 18, 2000Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: Qian Lin, Daniel R. Patent number: 5987220Abstract: A photographic printer and a method for setting conditions therefor with a reduced burden are disclosed. A test pattern image data is stored in memory in advance. At the time of setting conditions, the test pattern image data is read from the image memory and displayed on a liquid crystal panel, and a print is produced on the basis of the test pattern data displayed. The density of an image in this print corresponding to an image of the Bull's eye negative film is measured. The resulting density value is compared with a reference density value to set proper exposure conditions. Also, the displacement of the crossing point from a reference position is measured thereby to set the conditions for correcting the transport performance. Patent number: 5822040Abstract: An image testing method which improves an image testing ability and enables rapid testing processing. When an operator effects testing for an image displayed at a set test position and instructs alteration of a printing condition set by the testing, the image is scrolled and the next image is displayed at the test position without the altered image being displayed. When the next image is displayed at the test position, the operator starts testing for the next image without moving his/her line of vision.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1996Date of Patent: October 13, 1998Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventors: Koichi Sugahara, Tsutomu Kimura, Junji Sugano, Jun Nakagawa, Ryoichi Hayashi
