Publication number: 20130127784Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatuses for hiding optical contrast features. To reduce visibility of an elongated optical contrast feature, such as a wire on a transparent light guide, neighboring light-turning features in the light guide are “moved” relative to their location in a layout where they are physically uniformly distributed. This movement renders the local optical density in the region around the wire more equal to the optical density in other regions of the light guide. The movement of neighboring light-turning features occurs principally within a distance from the wire that is within the width of the line spread function of the human eye at a normal viewing distance. The uniformity of the local optical density is therefore increased, and the human eye does not perceive the wires as being separate structures. Thus, the wires can be “hidden” within a field of light-turning features.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 22, 2011Publication date: May 23, 2013Applicant: QUALCOMM MEMS Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Russel Allyn Martin

Patent number: 8398289Abstract: A structure for eliminating bright lines of a tiled backlight module is provided. The structure includes a light guide plate, and a plurality of light sources. The light guide plate includes a plurality of rows of optical elements. The rows of optical elements extend in parallel. The light sources are provided at least one side of the light guide plate for projecting a light into the light guide plate and generating a regular but non-uniform light outputting performance of the light guide plate. Therefore, a brightness of areas where the optical elements are located is higher than the rest areas, so that the light guide plate achieves a regular but non-uniform light emitting performance. Accordingly, the bright lines occurred at joints between two light guide plates are enshrouded by the high brightness areas, and become hard to identify or even undistinguishable, thus “eliminated”.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2009Date of Patent: March 19, 2013Assignee: Global Lighting Technologies (Taiwan) Inc.Inventors: Sheng-Ju Chung, Tung-Chuan Su, Yu-Jeng Lin, Wen-Yen Huang, Yi-Chieh Lu

Publication number: 20120287494Abstract: A metal layer is formed on a highly light-transmissive substrate; a resist mask having an opening pattern is formed on the metal layer; exposed portions of the metal layer is etched away in this state to form openings; then the resist mask is removed; and a surface of the metal layer and an inner side wall of each of the openings are oxidized to form a metal oxide layer. Thus, a front surface and a rear surface of the aperture plate are caused to have different reflectances. The oxide layer is formed at the same time as when the resist mask is ashed to remove resist.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 26, 2012Publication date: November 15, 2012Inventors: Kouhei Takahashi, Takeshi Kuriyagawa, Daisuke Sonoda, Takuo Kaitoh, Katsumi Matsumoto

Patent number: 7976172Abstract: Light emitted from a lamp enters a color wheel having a region for allowing a predetermined color to pass therethrough, is reflected on a mirror, and enters a DMD. After this, the light is reflected by the DMD and enters a color sensor, which then detects the color of the transmitting light. A projection apparatus automatically synchronizes the control on the rotation of the color wheel and the control on the proceeding direction of the transmitting light by the DMD, based on a color time-division pattern of the transmitting light detected by the color sensor.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2007Date of Patent: July 12, 2011Assignee: Casio Computer Co., Ltd.Inventor: Tetsuro Narikawa
