Electrical Connection Detail Patents (Class 360/123.36)
  • Patent number: 11264051
Abstract: A PMR writer with a capacitive one turn design is disclosed with a one turn top coil above the main pole (MP), a one turn bottom coil below the MP, and where a capacitor (C_bot) is electrically connected to the bottom coil thereby shunting the write current (lw) in the bottom coil above certain frequencies proximate to 1 GHz. The C_bot is made of TiO2 or Al-doped TiO2, for example, with a dielectric constant >10. As a result, the writer behaves like a 1+1T writer at lw frequencies substantially below 1 GHz, as a 1+0.xT writer at lw frequencies proximate to 1 GHz, and like a 1+0T writer in an overshoot region of the lw. Accordingly, better trailing shield field gradient, signal-to-noise ratio, and bit error rate during high frequency operation are achieved without compromising saturation speed and adjacent track interference for an overall improvement in performance.

  • Patent number: 10777220
Abstract: Dual and triple PMR writers are disclosed wherein the number of writer pads required to energize the selected PMR writer is minimized to three or four, respectively, with a coil configuration wherein separate top coils are connected by separate interconnects or side taps to separate bottom coils. Either top coils or bottom coils may be linked to a common W? pad. Alternatively, there may be one bottom coil that allows all output current to flow to a common W? pad. Coils may have a pancake or helical shape. In dual PMR writer embodiments, there may be one or two dynamic fly height heater coils. Magnetic performance in the selected writer of a dual PMR writer is similar to that of a single PMR writer with regard to erase width in AC mode (EWAC), Hy field, trailing and side shield return fields, down-track and cross-track gradient.

  • Patent number: 8514671
Abstract: A slider may have a first surface on an air bearing surface (ABS) and a laser recess formed in a second surface of the slider, opposite the first surface. A laser can then be positioned in the laser recess with the laser extending from the slider to a top plane. A stud may be formed adjacent to and separated from the laser on the second surface of the slider with the stud extending from the second surface of the slider to the top plane.

  • Patent number: 7974042
Abstract: The present invention relates to a thin-film device whose bump has an improved surface property. A thin-film element of the thin-film device includes at least one of an electromagnetic conversion element, a passive element and an active element. A lead conductor film containing Cu as a main component is connected to the thin-film element. The lead conductor is provided with a bump. The bump includes a first conductor film and a second conductor film. The first conductor film is adhered onto the lead conductor film and is a Ta film or made of a material having a comparably fine crystal structure. The second conductor film is a plated film which is directly or indirectly formed on the first conductor film and contains Au as a main component.

  • Patent number: 7782568
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a compact thin-film magnetic head capable of being increased in the number of terminals, and a magnetic disk drive that uses the thin-film magnetic head. In one embodiment, a thin-film magnetic head is constructed that has a magnetic response element, multiple connection object terminals, multiple lead conductors electrically connected to the magnetic response element, and multiple connection sections each formed between each of the connection object terminals and one of the multiple lead conductors in order to electrically connect each of the connection object terminals and one of the lead conductor. All of the multiple lead conductors are provided in the state where they extend from the magnetic response element to the lower layers of the multiple connection object terminals. A magnetic disk drive using the thin-film magnetic head is constructed.
