Record Editing Patents (Class 360/13)
  • Patent number: 6704671
Abstract: The present invention provides for a method and system for identifying a sonic event of interest within a received audio signal. A sonic event is characterized by a predetermined rate of change in the perceived audio volume, and is associated with the loudness of the audio. The present invention detects a sonic event such as a percussive hit without requiring that the detector be disabled for a fixed time to avoid false triggering. Because the detector is not disabled during the detection process, sonic events occurring in close proximity are easily recognized and not ignored as in some conventional systems.

Abstract: For audio data configured in units of frames with a header at the top and compressed in a way such that data corresponding to a specific frame is also present in a different frame, the present invention executes at least one of the following processing (1) and processing (2) at dividing this compressed audio into two pieces of audio data, i.e., front and rear pieces, at a predetermined position. (1) A step to divide the audio data into front and rear pieces, and a step to add data of a predetermined number of bytes at the beginning of the rear audio data to an end of the front audio data. (2) A step to divide the audio data into front and rear pieces, and a step to add data of a predetermined number bytes from an end of the front audio data to the front of the beginning of the rear audio data. This prevents the generation of abnormal noise even when data is compressed in a way, typically in MP3, such that location of a frame and location of data for that frame do not always match.

Abstract: For the purpose of letting through a magnetic flux which reverses the magnetization of the magnetic layer of the magnetic disk, a write element requires a predetermined sectional area. However, if a cross section of a magnetic pole is structured as the one having a large aspect ratio, the pole becomes less capable of letting the magnetic flux through effectively. This phenomenon brings about a lower limit on the track width of the magnetic poles and the track density cannot be raised. In the present invention, by making the width of the write element larger than the track pitch and securing a write magnetic field strong enough to reverse the magnetization of the magnetic layer, and further by writing while shifting a write head comprising the write element, a magnetic disk drive, of which the track width is narrower than the write element width, and the storage capacity is large, is realized.

  • Patent number: 6608730
Abstract: Reducing the gap distance between existing data and appended blocks increases the information density written onto magnetic tape. A narrow gap spacing may be achieved by reading the existing block of data with a read module leading the write module in the tape direction. The end of the existing data is determined from data read by the leading read module. Delaying appending data by a gap period introduces the gap between the existing block of data and the new block of data to be appended. The new block of data is written following the gap and verified by reading with a read module following the write module in the tape direction.

A recording signal processing circuit shuffles the audio/video data, adds ECCs, and codes them for recording. A CPU control circuit controls a control ECC block addition circuit to generate control ECC blocks and sends them to the recording signal processing circuit. At playback time, the control ECC blocks are read from the disc and sent to a control ECC block playback circuit where they are played back. The CPU control circuit controls the optical head, spindle motor, and so on with the played-back control ECC blocks and commands. Video/audio data is read from the disc by the optical head. Abstract: In a digital VTR to which this invention is applied, recording heads 51a, 51b, reproduction heads 52a, 52b and an erase head 53 are disposed on a rotary drum 50 so that the recording heads 51a, 51b and the erase head 53 do not scan tracks for a time period during which the reproduction heads 52a, 52b are scanning tracking areas 2 and speech areas 3. In the case where, e.g., speech signal of channel #1 is insert-recorded, an approach is employed to separate, at a reproduction signal processing circuit 67, speech signal of channel #2 of interleaved speech signals reproduced by the reproduction heads 52a, 52b to deliver it to a recording signal processing circuit 46 through a selector switch 45b. Further, the speech signal of the channel #2 and new speech signal of the channel #1 delivered through a terminal 42a are interleaved by the recording signal processing circuit 46 to record such interleaved signals into the speech areas 3 by the recording heads 51a, 51b.

  • Patent number: 5926332
Abstract: A variable speed reproduction of speech from memory depending on the indication of a jog dial, is accomplished by buffer memory (23) for speech sound and a jog dial (17) for controlling a read speed from this memory. Speech sound data is read out from the buffer memory (23) at a speed corresponding to the indication of the jog dial (17). The speech sound data is reproduced, independent of the jog dial (17), from a tape (13) and is written into the memory (23). A capstan motor drive circuit (18) detects the difference between the read address and the write address of the memory (23) and controls the reproduction speed of the sound speech data from the tape (13) in accordance with this difference. Since the read speed is directly controlled for the memory (23), no time delay exists between the speed command and the actual variable-speed reproduction.
