  • Patent number: 9837109
Abstract: A suspension baseplate is stamped at its distal end to which the load beam is mounted. The stamping operation smoothes out roughness in the edge of the baseplate and lowers its height slightly so that, along the line on the baseplate which last contacts the load beam as the load beam is leaving the baseplate, that line on the baseplate is smooth and free of burrs and similar defects. By eliminating burrs on the surface to which the load beam is mounted, variations in the pitch and twist of the load beam are reduced.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a head suspension includes a punching process, a positioning process, and an affixing process. An objective part on the head suspension to which a damper 73 is affixed includes a discontinuous section 72. The punching process punches a damper material into the damper 73 whose shape corresponds to the shape of the objective part excluding the discontinuous section 72. The positioning process positions the damper 73 to the objective part so that the damper 73 avoids and surrounds the discontinuous section 72, and the affixing process affixes the damper 73 to the objective part. The method secures a uniform damping effect among manufactured head suspensions and improves the yield of dampers and head suspensions without deteriorating the functions and performances of the head suspensions.

  • Patent number: 8102628
Abstract: Embodiments disclose hole sequences that are formed in the metal layer of a trace to adjust rigidity and crosstalk noise resulting from the hole sequences is thereby suppressed. A suspension according to one aspect of the invention includes a trace adapted to transmit a signal of a head slider. The trace partially extends along the side surface of the suspension. The trace includes a metal layer, a plurality of transmission lines formed above the metal layer and an insulating layer. A hole sequence overlapping the transmission lines is formed in part of the metal layer, which contributes to a reduction in transmission loss. Another hole sequence of the metal layer is formed at a position opposed to the hinge portion of the suspension. This reduces the rigidity of the wiring structure portion in the hinge portion, thereby preventing interference with the behavior of the suspension at the hinge portion.
